The story of Alice's adventures was first told by word of mouth, to distract a little girl of seven and her two sisters, during a river picnic on a hot July day in the year 1862.  Since then Lewis Carroll's tale has delighted readers of all ages and the Willow Tree Theatre Company has, this year, invited me to bring a performance of Alice to the Tiverton Stage.  Once again

the cast and backstage team have risen to the challenges presented by the staging of this production and I am very proud to be associated with this most professional of amateur companies.  I am sure that their efforts will be reflected in this performance and that, for the duration of the show, you too can escape to Wonderland, just pausing to reflect on Carroll's own words from his Easter Letter.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die.

Ever drifting down the stream -
Lingering in the golden gleam -
Life, what is it but a dream?
