| Hulme Upright Architects, Stoke on Trent (September 2002+) RIBA Part 3 | |
After graduating in 2002 from the University of Nottingham, I joined Hulme Upright as a Part II Architectural Assistant before returning to University to take my Part III final professional qualification. |
| The large experienced and well established practice in Stoke on Trent has given me the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects ranging from small scale one off house extensions to larger master planning projects in residential, commercial and industrial fields. The work has included new, refurbishment and listed buildings using a number of procurement techniques. | |
| The practice has trusted me to work unsupervised and enabled me to become part of a close-knit team, giving me increased responsibility and experience in many different areas of architecture, vastly increasing my understanding of the building process. | |
| Antony Birchall Architects, Congleton (8 weeks, Summer 2001) | |
| A small local practice where I was involved in the detailing of many different small scale projects, house extensions, barn conversions, farm and domestic buildings. | |
| Turner Woolford Sharp Architects Ltd, Birmingham (1 Year, September 1999) RIBA Part 1 | |
| An experienced practice located in the centre of Birmingham where I was closely involved in a range of exciting projects at different stages of production including a conversion of a derelict mill to residential flats in Evesham, a locally listed 1930's art-deco office refurbishment in Birmingham, a retail project for Boots the chemists, a mixed leisure and residential development and a social housing scheme. | |
| I attended meetings communicating with clients, planners, engineers, contractors, consultants and project managers. The discussions often resulted in my detailing parts of the building for construction. | |
The practice also gave me many positions of responsibility and the opportunity to assist on site visits and view the progression of other design projects both on and off site. |
| Ryder Ford and Associates Architects and Town Planners, Leek (4 weeks, August 1998) | |
| A small rural practice where I was given a variety of different tasks including surveying a barn for conversion, writing planning applications, construction detailing a large garage, and writing a cuttings list for a stone mason. I was also given the opportunity to assist on site visits and view the progression of other larger design projects. | |

| Where I worked with a joiner and was involved with various practical tasks in the conservation of a Victorian terraced house in Macclesfield. | |
