The Church was constructed in the Victorian era in 1867. It was badly damaged in the Second World War, which resulted in the removal of the tower, and the destruction of the roof.
These were replaced in the mid-1950’s with copper coverings, giving the present St. James’s its distinctive green roof and tower.
