Barton Burial Registers

The task to provide an index to all the burial registers of St James' Parish Church, Barton-under-Needwood is now complete.

Barton parish registers began in 1571 and the first two include a mixture of baptisms, marriages and burials. The register from 1796 to 1812 is not in a bound volume but in a bundle of loose parchments.
After 1813 a tabulated format began to be used with 100 or 200 pages of numbered forms bound together. There are 8 spaces on each page so there is a possible total of 800 or 1600 entries in each register.
Most of the original registers are now in the care of the Staffordshire Archive Service.

The following contain indexes to the burials in Barton Churchyard.
If you are interested in the full entry in the registers you can view them at either the Lichfield or Stafford Record Offices or purchase your own fiche for Registers 1 & 2 from the BMSGH at a reasonable cost.
Alternatively, if you would like to help in the upkeep of the churchyard where your ancestors were buried, and wish to make a donation to the Friends of Barton Churchyard, then one of the Friends would be able to give you further help with your research.
