ARCHDIOCESE OF ST. ANDREWS AND EDINBURGH
34, Chalmers Street,
EDINBURGH.
28th March 1957.
To be read at all Masses on Sunday 31st March, 1957
Dear Reverend Father,
DUNFERMLINE PILGRIMAGE 1957 .
In the course of each year there are held throughout Scotland many Catholic rallies, demonstrations and pilgrimages. But of these, at present only one, the annual pilgrimage to Dumfermline , is organised as a national event. From every quarter of the country an increasing number of pilgrims converge each year upon Dunfermline to honour St. Margaret on her feast ... day in June. They recall how zealously she strove to promote and strengthen the faith, by the Churches she built and adorned, by her care for the fitting celebration of the Liturgy, by her personal devotion to the Holy Mass, by her example as a saintly Queen, wife and mother.
This year our pilgrimage will be held on June 16th. To be present at this national function will involve no small inconvenience and sacrifice. But I am confident that a considerable representation from each parish of this Diocese will participate in this great act of devotion to our patron, St. Margaret, and that by their faith and the fervour of their prayers, they will bring nearer the return of Scotland to the true Faith.
With a blessing to yourself and your flock, Yours devotedly in Our Lord,
+ GORDON J. GRAY, Archbishop of St. Andrews and Edinburgh.
