Frobisher's Gold

CopyrightStone Museum of Geology

This specimen is from the actual cargo of ore that Frobisher brought back from Canada to Dartford where, for three hundred years, it has formed part of the wall to Dartford's Tudor Priory. A very hard and heavy stone, this is one of the igneous rocks, hornblende.

This small piece of Dartford's heritage was rescued from a waste tip in Priory Road following demolition of part of the wall to create a service road to the nearby new retail park.
