This disused sandpit is located just off the A206 within easy reach from Charlton or Woolwich Dockyard stations. Connex operate a regular train service to Charlton from Charing Cross, Dartford and the Medway Towns. Many types of fossil shells and sharks' teeth from the Tertiary (Blackheath Beds) may be found. This is one of the only sites where plant fossils from the Lewisham Leaf Bed may be found. The area is in the process of being fenced off by the local authority so prior permission to access the site will be necessary.
