Green River, Wyoming, USA

The pale buff limestone of this area is famous for it’s fossil fish remains, many of them complete and beautiful specimens. Dating from the Eocene period (50 million years ago), fossils are so abundant in these beds that there cannot be a single collection or rock shop around the world that does not boast at least one Green River fish. Most of the species represent ancestors to todays Bowfin, Catfish, Herring and Stone Gar.
