Gypsum - Calcium Sulphate Dihydrate (CaSO4.2H2O) - is an important mineral in that it is the main consituent of the plasterboard used in the construction industry for partition walls and ceilings. It is also used in fertilisers and pigments, as an additive for drugs and cosmetics and in the manufacture of plaster of paris and Portland cement.
