The museum car park is currently closed due to building works but there is NCP parking nearby. Whilst most of the museum centres around the human habitation and history of the capital, a new gallery London before London opened in October 2002 to cover London's prehistory from 450,000 years ago up until the Roman invasion. On display are remains of mammoth, cave bear, lion and auroch, along with many stone tools. Opening times are Monday to Saturday 10.00am to 5.50pm, Sunday 12.00 noon to 5.50pm (Last admission 5.30pm). Admission is free and there is a cafeteria on site.
