This strange animal - Nautilus macomphalus is a relative of the squids, cuttle-fish and octopusses and lives a similar lifestyle. It is a predator feeding mainly on small fish and shrimps. Hunting near the water's surface by night, they retreat to depths of hundreds of feet during the day. The Nautilus is the sole surviving relative of the ammonites. Once found in seas all over the world, the Nautilus is now found only in the Indo-Pacific. |
