You will remember that earlier this year we send cheques to Ekwendeni from the Christmas Carol Quiz.

Bob Baxter on his return from Ekwendeni brought thank you letters and photos taken when each cheque was handed over.  These photos will be displayed on the hall notice board.

The news he brings is not so good. Bob and Jan had intended travelling to Ekwendeni in October but have been advised to postpone this visit. The political unrest in the towns has reached as far north as Mzuzu the nearest town to Ekwendeni. There have been demonstrations against the government because of high food prices.    V.A.T. has been added to many commodities including food.

But there is news of a good harvest this year so those in remote villages should not go hungry. Goods are being collected for a further container and one container is already en-route to Ekwendeni. News is awaited concerning the possibility of V.A.T. being charged on these shipments.

The report from the Viyele Feeding Programme is that more people are receiving meals and there is money for this year. With the end of session balance being approx 137412 MK (Malawi Kwacha) help will still be needed to raise another £1,904 over the next year. A number of local congregations have helped this programme in past years including Ferintosh and Rosskeen. Perhaps another Quiz later in the autumn could support this appeal.
