Recent Stress Payouts

Recent Public Sector Stress Compensation Payouts.
(Some of them seem more like jokes, but they are all true !)

John Richards. A 47 year old Fire-fighter from Neath, Wales was awarded £100,000
for ‘depression caused by a forced job transfer’. (change)

A female bank worker was awarded £20,000 after suffering panic attacks, following an armed bank raid. (PTSD)

Lynne Schofield. West Yorkshire P.C. was awarded £151,000 for stress caused following live firearms being discharged in her presence. (PTSD)

Following Walker vs. Northumberland County Council, yet another social worker from a different Council was awarded £140,000 for ‘job related stress.’ (Chronic Stress Burnout)

Two Cumbria County Council workers were awarded £110,000 after ‘suffering illness through stress due to increased workloads and extra hours. (Chronic Stress Burnout)

A Scunthorpe Post Office manager was awarded £175,000 in an out of court settlement as ‘increased workload caused him to develop depression’. (Chronic Stress Burnout)

A Council housing officer was awarded £67,400 ‘for stress she suffered after dealing with rude & demanding tenants in the course of her work’. (PTSD & Chronic Stress Burnout)

Northumberland Detective Inspector Brian Baker was awarded £7,000 after claiming ‘exposure to cannabis during a raid had caused him to snore, causing arguments with his wife.’ (Physical injury leading to Emotional Stress)

All of these with the exception of the out of court settlement were deemed to have been foreseeable and preventable by the employers ! (A Stress Management Solution program is recognised as prevention......)

More Class Actions .......
On 5th March 2002 262 ex-servicemen, who saw action in The Falklands, The Golf, N.I. & Bosnia, are taking the MOD to the High Court for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Mr. Justice Owen will have to decide if it was foreseeable and preventable. The claiments argue that PTSD was not diagnosed or treated in service. To back thier claim is the numerous suicides by Falklands soldiers since the conflict ended. If successfull the claims will run into many millions.

There are many more in the pipeline for Companies as well as the Public Sector.
