What is stress ?
Stress could be described as the emotional and physical response to the perception that 'expectations exceed our ability'. However, this only causes stress if we believe that what's 'expected' is important !

The effects of stress ?
Stress often gets out of control and takes over our lives. Symptoms can include anxiety, tension, mood changes, sleep problems, depression, increased fears, loss of humour, confidence, memory & energy. Also there are various physical problems such as indigestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), headaches etc.
Common coping strategies can include over/under-eating, smoking, drinking or the release of frustration causing intolerance and temper. Both stress symptoms and coping strategies affect relationships as well as work.

The main problem with stress is that it usually creeps up on us slowly. The more stressed we become, the less we feel we can cope & the harder we try, causing yet more stress ! Left unchecked this cycle can lead to 'burn-out' (physical & mental exhaustion) and / or depression.
