| Band welcomes back John Berryman |
|
The band are delighted to welcome back professional MD John Berryman, who will work alongside Derek in the build up to the Bugle contest. This conducting 'dream-ticket' guided us to victory in the 2nd section last year, which was our first victory at Bugle in around 50 years. The band are determined to reclaim last year's crown, and have already started rehearsing the test piece, Vaughn Williams' challenging work 'Henry the 5th'. We were all thrilled with our first rehearsal with John, and are enjoying fully-attended rehearsals once more; hopefully after the disappointment of Torquay, 2007 will be a year to remember for St Stythians Band! |

| Success at the CBBA contest! |
|
The band are delighted with their victory at the Cornish Brass Band association contest, claiming the 2nd section title. Whilst admittedly there were only 2 bands in the section, we are nonetheless delighted with this result after the recent disappointment at the area contest. We gave an bonus rendition for our appreciative audience, singing 'happy birthday' for cornetist Lisa during the results. However, adjudicator Derek Broadbent didn't approve of our efforts, claiming 'I haven't heard anything so out-of-tune all day'.
Not only did we claim the 2nd section title (by a clear 3 points), but our sop player won 'best player of the day' and our cornet section claimed the title of 'best cornet section'. Not bad for a days work! |
