Walking > North Downs Way (July 2005)
Joining the North Downs Way as it leaves East Cantebury, it's possible to walk to Dover 18 miles away. If you want to return to Canterbury on the same day, there are a number of drop off points to the nearby trainline - including Aylesham and Shepherdswell (or indeed Dover itself). I opted for Shepherdswell, giving a route of 10-11 miles, with pretty easy terrain (well-marked footpaths throughout, and only small hills) which took about 4-5 hours including breaks.

The route was very picturesque, and well worth doing again - and didn't require too much referring back to the map. Here's the pictures:
| Leaving the City, the first signpost for the NDW leads you up a dodgy tarmac'ed path - fortunately things get better very quickly | |||
| Most of the walking is along or through crop fields, and the paths are pretty well kept and marked | |||
| This is the view just past Patrixbourne - where there was a handy bench for a pitstop | |||
| View to Higham Park | |||
| Despite being a major long-distance walk, I only saw one other person out there - who'd set off from Dover first thing in the morning, aiming towards Canterbury. | |||
| Line just before Shepherswell | |||
