Kimbolton TKM ABkC Round 2: 11.4.04
NEWSLETTER
A dry day was welcomed by most drivers and produced stunningly close racing and different winners to the first round. That is except in Junior 4-stroke where Michael Cox demonstrated supremacy yet again.
At the event was a talent spotter from Track and Race Cars looking for young superstars to take part in a karting talent shoot-out leading to scholarship drives in the new Formula BMW series. Five drivers have been pencilled in for a final decision by the magazine.
Entry forms for the TKM Festival at Kimbolton will automatically be sent to all S1 TKM drivers soon. The date of the TKM ABkC O plate at Llandow has been put back to October 24 to prevent clashes with other events.
Tal-Ko ABkC Formula Jnr. TKM
Heat winners: Chris Palmer, Ayrton Pankiw, Danny Fiske, Scott Allen, Jordan Williams.
B Final: Matthew Bell, Linda Rose, Ian Munro, Will Leon.
A Final: Polesitter Jake Packun won the first corner from Scott Allen, and along with birthday boy Pankiw, they battled, exchanging the lead, all evenly matched. That was until Williams leapfrogged up from grid 17 after his heat exclusion, and sliced through the lead group to win. Allen had dropped to third in that move, but recovered to second at the last corner. Williams could not believe his success saying ‘I thought 6th would be a good result’.
Results: Williams, Allen, Joel Mulholland, Packun, Charles Bonsey, Pankiw.
Tal-Ko ABkC Formula TKM Extreme
Heat winners: Michael Ryall, James Holman, James Nash, Ben Robinson, Oliver Roberts, Ryan Cole.
B Final: Roberts, James Burnett, Andrew Wilkinson, Barnaby Pittingale.
A Final: An intense battle with Nash leading all bar a short period near the end when Ryall put his nose in front. Nash managed to get back in front in time for the chequer. This battle let Ryan Furner join in and he took second only to be excluded when his sidepods were found to be outside the plane of the wheels.
Results: Nash, Ryall, Tom Evans, Lee Mabbett, Adam Rodgers, Edward Lo Bianco.
Tal-Ko ABkC Formula TKM Intermediate
Heat winners: Andrew Potter, Joe Osborne, Will Bullard.
A Final: Osborne and Paul Moden swapped the lead throughout in a huge and entertaining fight. But Osborne was on top when it counted. Will Bullard was in the mix as well but was docked 20 seconds for his driving standard at the end, dropping him from 2nd to 17th. Philip Stanley took a 5s penalty.
Results: Osborne, Moden, Matt Harman, Oliver Blake, Lee Gadsby.
Tal-Ko Formula TKM 4-stroke
Heat winners: Carl Willoughby, Chris Walsh, Steve Nicholls.
A Final: In the heats it looked like the race was between Willoughby and Walsh, but a clash at the end of the last heat dropped them down the grid and set the scene for Needham to get away to a clean lead and put his head down. His six second lead was followed by a huge battle for the podium with Bridger sneaking into second in the dying moments. Walsh was excluded from 4th when he left parc fermé before weighing.
Results: Needham, Bridger, Willoughby, Simon Boydell, Jack Meekings.
Tal-Ko Formula Junior TKM 4-stroke
Heat winners: Michael Cox x 3
A Final: Cox eked out a cushion over Tom Bridge and Alex Shackleton, who were getting quite physical in their efforts to maintain second place.
Results: Cox, Bridge, Shackleton, Ashley Heard, Tommy Truscott.
Kim Capers
Carl Willoughby was initially excluded from a heat for driving standards, but on appeal it was reduced to a five place penalty.
Trophies for Senior 4-stroke and Intermediates will be presented at the next TKM round at Larkhall on May 23.
