Whilton Mill TKM ABkC Round 6: 3.10.04
NEWSLETTER
Congratulations to the new champions, commiserations to those who lost out during a real roller-coaster of a day. Thomas Davis took the Junior TKM title with a steady finish, Ben Cruttenden the Extremes. Joe Osborne bounced back from his disastrous PFI round to claim the Intermediate title. As his rivals fell, Carl Willoughby went top of the table in senior 4-stroke. Champion Michael Cox decided to race after all in junior 4-stroke, and won. The rain came before the finals, producing some impressive mid grid to podium drives.
Thank you to all competitors and sponsors, we’re looking forward to being back, and seeing all of you back in 2005. Remember the prize giving will be at the NEC, Autosport International Racing Car Show, on Saturday 15th January.
Tal-Ko ABkC Formula Jnr. TKM
Heat winners: Ayrton Pankiw, Rossi, Scott Allen, Callum Holland
A Final: Scott Allen had an awesome first lap from 13 to 3rd, then took Pankiw and Rossi on consecutive laps down Zulu for the win. Charles Bonsey split these two for 3rd, from grid 16.
Results: Allen, Pankiw, Bonsey, Rossi, James Tucker.
Tal-Ko ABkC Formula TKM Extreme
Heat winners: Barnaby Pittingale, Ben Robinson, Edward Lo Bianco, Shaun Carter, Martyn Bond.
B Final: Michael Cornell, Chris Burton, Martin Stone, Paul Fox.
A Final: Carter went straight into the lead to win with Cruttenden coming past Robinson, the latter then demoted by Micky Higham. James Nash was cruelly denied the title when his chain broke with a lap to go.
Results: Carter, Cruttenden, Higham, Robinson, Pittingale.
Tal-Ko ABkC Formula TKM Intermediate
Heat winners: Joe Osborne, Robert Carter, Richard Bond.
A Final: Will Bullard was reeled in by Bond, to be passed as they came
round the last sequence side by side.
But Bullard was excluded from the meeting for a non-TKM exhaust end. Osborne’s
fourth behind Oliver Blake and Bartlett was good enough for the title.
Results: Bond, Blake, Bartlett, Osborne, Zak Roseman.
Tal-Ko Formula TKM 4-stroke
Heat winners: Carl Willoughby, Sam Dimelow, Willoughby.
A Final: Out going champion Chris Needham was out to prove a point, and he stormed through from the back to take Willoughby mid-race at Inkermans. Willoughby just needed to finish and 2nd was fine for the title. Robin Godding came off backwards at Pits, chasing Bridger
Results: Needham, Willoughby, Bridger, Anjum Sayed, Steve Nichols.
Tal-Ko Formula Junior TKM 4-stroke
Heat winners: Kieran Vernon, David Sadler, Joel Saunders.
A Final: Matthew Pritchard vaulted past Dafydd Iles to lead, but Michael
Cox was on a mission from the fourth row.
Second was traded back and forth with Tommy Truscott, but eventually Cox
was through and into the lead when Pritchard slid a touch wide.
Results: Cox, Pritchard, Truscott, Vernon, Rhys Jenkins.
Mill Mutterings
The new ‘sniffer’ machine which detects illegal substances on tyres was used throughout the day. No problem tyres were encountered.A day of disasters for front-runners with Chris Palmer’s Junior TKM title hopes dashed when he was excluded from the first heat, and came off in another. In senior 4-stroke, Chris Needham and Robin Godding failed to finish two heats, whilst Sam Dimelow was excluded for a missing front fairing.
Carl Willoughby’s first TKM national title was for senior 2-stroke, back in 1993.
A one minute silence was held at the drivers briefing. Drivers and S1 officials
expressed sympathies
to the family of Junior TKM driver Will Leon, after his untimely death in
a car accident.
Toilets were vandalised on the Friday night, and a car was being driven dangerously in the paddock on Saturday night. If the perpetrators are caught for this or any similar offence at any round, severe penalties will follow.
