A few years ago, most people turned up to trackdays on their road bikes. Headlights got taped, mirrors where folded in...but the trackday scene has changed. The white van man has evolved (& lukily, they ride better than they drive!)
So why the change? It can be more daunting now for 1st timers, but treat it like a big, wide peice of tarmac with no oncoming vehicles, no potholes/drain covers, no kerbs, no trees & you will soon see why you were more likely to have an accident riding to the circuit than on it! There are less 1st timers nowadays...but only because there all on their 2nd+ trackday!
Its a fact that British roads are a dangerous place for the motorcyclist, not to mention busy & expensive! (& what about the weather?!?) Yet we have some of the best circuits in the world...fact!
I like many found the cost & enjoyment of riding on the road was quickly getting more of a chore. Weighing up the pro's & the cons, trackdays became a very viable alternative to selling up. The expensive insurance premiums you pay for the latest machinary out of the showroom almost paid for a years worth of trackdays alone!
