Timeless formations of nature
It is an instinctive process
The metal creates its own character
Distinctive, Elegant and Pure
"Susan creates
her beautiful jewellery using texture, movement, form and
colour with a subtle fusion of the ancient and
contemporary.
Specialising in forging and hammering techniques she works
primarily with Fine Silver & 22ct Gold, precious and
semi precious stones and avoids environmentally harmful
procsses wherever possible."
Having studied
Jewellery Design under Jessica Turrell at The Bristol
School of Art, Media & Design,
I set up my first workshop with help from the P.Y.B.T. in
January 1998.
I recently moved from Cumbria and am now working from my
new studio in the beautiful land of Snowdonia, North Wales.
I am influenced
and inspired by the timeless formations of nature which
surround me. From the tiny details of moss to the vast
solitude upon the mountain summits, from huge layers of
ancient rock to the patterns within a single
stone.
My inspirational
starting point involves much preliminary sketching and
photography, which results in a theme. Individual pieces
tend to evolve through the making process so that no two
pieces are completely the same and each has a life of its
own.
I like to feel that I am not completely in charge of the
end result and tend to let the metal form its own design
character.
It is an instinctive process.
