About Open Palm Tai ji

The Open Palm school practices the Yang Style of Taiji. Students first learn the 37 Posture Cheng M'an Ching Short Form at a rate of one posture a week along with the 5 loosening exercises developed by Master Huang Xiang Xin.

Once the choreography of the short form has been established we are then free to work on the constant internal changes as the body passes from one posture to the next.

Partner work is essential in developing sensitivity and is called Pushing Hands. Students learn fixed exercises with a partner, exploring 'yielding', 'neutralising' and 'issuing' of the vertical circle.
