A SWARBRICK FAMILY
of Lancashire and Beyond
When someone starts to research their Family History they will normally ask, "Where do I start?".
After a while they will probably ask, "Where do I stop!?!"
I guess the most logical place to start is with yourself and work backwards. Most of us know who our parents are or were, and many of us will know - or know of - our grandparents, but beyond that it starts to get a bit hazy and reliable information can be hard to obtain.
Some of us may be lucky enough to have an old family Bible that records the births, deaths and marriages of some ancestors.
Some might start their research while their elderly relatives are still around to pass on their memories.
Others may have to start with only the bare bones of a family history and work long and hard to flesh it out into something worthwhile.
I seem to fall into more than one of those categories.
To be honest, I never set out to do a Family History. I only wanted to find out a bit about my paternal grandfather, Richard Joseph Swarbrick. He, and his life before marrying my grandmother, Alice Mary Maltman, had always been something of a mystery.
