Hot on the heals of their comedy ‘Flavours of World’ adidas have introduced the ‘Tournament Edition’. Classic Tennis re-issues Rod Laver, Stan Smith, Nastase Master, Forest Hills and Grand Slam, given the adidas touch that usually means fucking up a classic. But, I have to say I love the Grand Slam and even the Forest Hills, and of course the Stans will always have a place in my heart. The other two I don’t care for. However, one pair of tennis classics that aren’t included in the pack are Davis Cup. Re-issued as Tennis TC, the Davis Cup in their original colours are a fantastic shoe, on a par with the exquisite though acquired taste of the Tom Okker, re-issued as Tennis Super late in 2007.
Nike continue their all together lower key re-issue programme, releasing the excellent 70’s runner ‘Bermuda’. Some may disagree with the artificial aging of the suede and mid-sole but you cannot deny the quality of the Nike’s efforts. Maybe quality over quantity is something adidas should look into.
