recording and mixing,
in the studio, using Analogue and Digital desks, Hard disk recorders such as Fostex and
using software based tools such as Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer and Pro Tools. It is important to ensure that the
correct tools are used whether it be condenser microphones such as Neumann, AKG and Audio
Technica or dynamics such as Shure.
I have worked on Derek Acorah's show for 3 + years and have been the Engineer for over 140 shows. In venues ranging from 600 to 3,000 capacity. |

I am currently on the look out for talented individuals or bands who would like to record and try and get a recording deal. I can write the songs for you or you can bring your own songs and record them. If you are interested please follow the link at the foot of the page.
Studio
Recording, editing, mixing and mastering. I have facilities to record vocals and some instruments and all the necessary facilities to edit, mix and master tracks for you. I use Digital Performer and Logic on a G5 with a MOTU audio interface, Yamaha mixing desk and AKG microphones.
Live
Set up of PA etc. and mixing. For details of the sort of gigs I have been involved in see below under current and recent projects and Live Music.
Sound Tech at the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells over Christmas and New Year 2007/8 and now various other dates too. Last month worked on Steve Howe's show at the Trinity.
Working with a local Songwriter and singer on some soul, R'n'B tracks. Go to Silvertown Girl and listen to some of the tracks. Also three of these tracks are now out on iTunes. Search the store for Silvertown Girl.
Working with a DJ on some dance tracks this summer in my studio space.
Lots of teaching for various people.
A system set up for an arranger with many major credits over the last 20+ years. Using 3 Macs and various versions of DP.

The spring 2008 tour for Derek Acorah is now over and I was the sound engineer for 25 of the dates. It is now time to say goodbye to Derek as he apparently won't be employing the Production Company I have been working for. It's been fun and I've worked on over 200 shows.
Further recording and arrangement of "Thinking of You" for Sue Cope. This got played on BBC Southern Counties Radio (Friday September 7, 2007).
Sound Engineer for Green-ish Day, Green Day tribute band, at their gig at the Indigo Club in Bordon, Hampshire on 30/6/07. Running the front of house and 4 separate monitor mixes. This was through the Bands on the Run agency based in Southampton. Really good gig with an excellent band. The club has bands every Saturday, see their website for details.

Teaching a London based American songwriter (number 1's both sides of the Atlantic) how to use Logic to demo his latest songs for a forthcoming album.
Recording Will Travers (Born Free Foundation) reading a narrative for a local government promotional video.
Summer 2006 I engineered for Pop Fiction, a function band playing mainly corporate and private parties.
Recorded, edited and mixed an entire album for a school choir based in Sussex. Completed November 2006.
Recording and editing vocals for four albums for Rainbow Productions.
Songwriting 6 songs for 4 projects for Rainbow Productions.
Remixed 4 songs for a dance and fitness album for Rainbow Productions that is just about to be released in the USA (August/September 2006).
Recordings of Dame Vera Lynn and Dame Judi Dench to be played at a concert held at Croydon's Fairfield Halls. Then recording the concert for inclusion with a DVD being shot at the same time.
A recording for a School in Sussex. Of three folk songs for an international folk album, being produced in Hungary. We recorded and mixed this in less than a day. (Summer 2005).
Digitally restoring a track from some old 4 track reel to reel tapes onto Cubase SX 2. So that it's writer can then record a new backing track on top of the original.
Just helped Anna Krantz mix a demo for her publisher prior to it being sent to the States for a couple of big names looking for tracks. Watch this space... And now another one as well.
I have worked as the sound engineer on approximately 140 dates for Derek Acorah's Spring and Autumn 2004/5/6/7 one man show in some theatres around the England and Wales, these theatres have capacities up to 3,000 people and include the Manchester Opera House. Derek was even given a Variety club award at his show in Torquay. Derek is the star of "Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns" and "Most Haunted" on Living TV. Sharing the dates with Karn Broad and John Taylor, this work is for Rainbow Productions.

I helped record and edit another album for Jubal Records, for Bishop Wayne Malcolm. This album is now in the shops (2004).
A recording of 3 songs for Sue Cope called "Thinking of You", "Sixty Years on" and "Seagulls". Summer 2005
A demo recording for a local singer called Frida of "I'm not a girl" and "Against All Odds". April 2006
A recording for a local Hip Hop band. We recorded the vocals for three original songs in a day and re-mixed the backing tracks that they had put together elsewhere. Winter 2005
Recorded and mixed another demo for Breakout. (January 2005).
Providing PA and being the sound engineer at a premiere of 2 short films produced by St Mary's school in Bexhill in association with Sound Architect. At the White Rock Theatre in Hastings.
I engineered for Darren Terao as he recorded an album. Darren is a talented singer/ musician and songwriter, having played with Rochford, Dinah Carroll and Big Joe Turner. He spent sometime last summer in the US writing with some big names and is also writing some numbers for some BMG acts. I have also helped Darren in the mixing of another artist called Paul Dickson for a couple of demo tracks that have been taken to the States.
Using a Roland VM-C7200 digital mixer to work on live engineering for Karn Broad of Dutch Uncle. I also used this desk to mix the 'After Dark' demo.
Worked as freelance engineer for Master Transcriptions, a voice only recording studio, in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. They produce CDs and tapes for the partially sighted on behalf of Government departments as well as commercial concerns.
Teaching some specific studio skills to students studying A level Music Technology at a local school.
Recordings as Producer
"Thinking of You" by Sue Cope. Sue was round with a Cello player and another singer for us to put together a new arrangement of this song. We recorded a Piano and vocal track nearly 3 years ago and we have now put together this new arrangement. We are hoping this will see release for Christmas.

I recorded my own band Breakout for our last 4 demos. I have just finished mixing the 5th demo which consists of 4 tracks.
I recorded the Downsmen Corps Marching Band. A 17 piece band playing a selection of tracks from the movie 'Grease' for a CD which they have put together for family and friends. The 3 tracks were recorded live in the studio, all 17 instruments at the same time with only 2 overdubs required.
Recorded and mixed a demo CD for the duo "After Dark". Containing 14 tracks, this was recorded at LMS and then mixed at home over the Christmas period (2003).
I have recorded "Call to Arms" and this has been sent to various record companies.
I have recorded "Next to you" and "Is it true?" and these have been sent to publishing companies to gauge interest.

Pop Fiction are another band that I have helped out. They are a top class function band and play many corporate and private parties around the country. Just getting going this year and I was there for their gigs in the spring of 2006.
Infrasound had a gig at the Railway in Crawley for a record company executive in September 2004 and I was their engineer using Karn Broad's Roland and JBL set up.
Player started their gigging life at Danehill Social Club 27th June, I was at the controls for this gig and was again for all but one of their gigs before they split in September due to various external pressures.
Dutch Uncle played a reunion gig at the Marden Social Club on 4/1/2003. I did the live mixing for the band using Karn Broad's Roland VM-C7200 digital desk. And again on 12/7/2003 at the same venue, I was there at the desk again and what a gig.
I was also at the controls for another local band Drella at a recent gig of theirs. (2005)
