Foundation Classes   (times & locations)

Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) foundation classes offer an excellent introduction to Tai Chi.

Classes are based on the Chen style Tai Chi form.  The aim of the classes is to develop a student's understanding of the principles of Tai Chi, warming up exercises, Qi-Gong (energy promoting) exercises, the form and the application of Tai Chi in every day life.

Students will typically study Tai Chi within the foundation classes for one or two terms and then progress to an improver's group where they will focus on later parts of the form as well as studying silk reeling and pushing hands exercises.

Once students have grasped the principles of Tai Chi there are opportunities to study, weapons forms and the martial applications of Tai Chi.

The school teaches in association with the Bristol School of Tai Chi, through which there are opportunities for students to study with visiting masters from around the world.

Regular Day and Evening classes are available in Taunton, Glastonbury, & Weston-super-Mare.

Improvers & Advanced Classes

Students who have completed the foundation classes normally move onto an improvers and advanced groups where they continue to study Tai Chi in more depth. Students continue the form as well as studying further silk reeling and pushing hands exercises. Once students have a good grasp of form basics they may go on to study applications, 2-man form and weapons forms.

Community Classes

Community classes provide an opportunity to gear classes to the needs of specific groups.  For example, classes for the over 60's can offer Tai Chi at a level and in a way that is safe and particularly suitable for those from 50 right up into the 80's.  We have one student who is 96!

(Even if you are under 60, you can still join us!)

There are currently inexpensive over 60's classes as follows;

Monday mornings (10:30-11:45) at the Temple Methodist Church, Upper High Street, Taunton. Map

Monday afternoons (1:00-2:15) at the Church Hall, Bishops Hull, Taunton. Map

Wednesday afternoons (2:00-3:15) at Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton.
