East Saxons News

2012 kicked off with our Annual Dinner and Dance on the 14th January and I’m pleased to say that one of the decisions made at the AGM later, on 1st March, was to revert to calling it the Christmas Dinner and Dance and setting the date for December this year. Other changes made at the AGM related to the format of our committee. After looking after our cash for some time, Heather Kelly handed back the cheque book and Ian Freeman, after taking on the Area Co-ordinator’s job, decided he could not devote enough time to events. I’d like to thank both of them for their contribution to the Group. Colin Collingwood intended to hand back his Editor’s eye shade but relented as we had no volunteers to take over.  Denis Parsons was elected as Treasurer whilst Colin Jeffrey takes over as Events Co-ordinator. We are therefore still looking for a replacement East Saxons Periodical Editor as Colin Collingwood does not want to continue on a permanent basis. You can see the ugly mugs of the committee by looking at the “contacts” section of this website.

At the time of writing I cannot, hand on heart, say I would love to get out in the TR. It’s early April and we’ve been spoilt by some unseasonably warm weather in March. Currently though, it’s cold and lashing down with rain, huge puddles line the lanes, gardening looks to be self defeating and we have a hosepipe ban!

Despite the snow in early February, it had cleared sufficiently for 6 of us to make the road trip to Llandrindod Wells for the Register Winter Ball. Chris and Sylvia Russell and Veronica and me risked the TRs, with Gordon Welch and Linda Rose in a Eurobox. It was cold and damp on the Friday run down and on the Saturday, but the Sunday journey home was completed with tops down. It was very, very cold and snow covered the hill tops but bright sunshine lasted until a few miles from home when it sank below the horizon and then it really did get COLD.

TRs were much in evidence for our Sunday lunch, a dozen or so freshly spring cleaned cars with owners in their Sunday-best decorated the car park of The John Barleycorn at Thresher’s Bush much to the pleasure of other diners. Spring at last? No just a brief respite.

At least the evenings are lengthening so I’m hoping for some good turnouts at our regular weekly pub meetings, even though not too many TRs have so far been seen since last season. We’ve got some new members this year so let’s put on some good shows to encourage them and also promote the TR marque.
