Robert C. Marwick was born and grew up on the island of Rousay and attended the Wasbister and Sourin schools there before going to the Grammar School in Kirkwall. He spent five years on war service, mainly in the far east, before enrolling at Aberdeen University where he graduated before training to become a teacher.
After teaching in his first post in Caithness for two years he moved to Ayrshire where he taught in four successive schools, in three of them as headmaster.
Robert is now retired and lives in Kilwinning and spends his retirement writing books about the island of his birth. He has researched the histories of most of the old families on Rousay and in 1994 published 'Rousay Roots', a comprehensive guide listing hundreds of families from the island and their descendants scattered worldwide.

Other publications include 'From my Rousay Schoolbag' and 'In Dreams We Moor', both of which are available from Orkney booksellers.
