DRAWING ANIMATION - THE
BOUNCING BALL
To begin drawing in the
Animation Studio
1. Either start a new
project and scene or open an existing scene
2. In the Main Scanning
and Editing Form, left-click on the Create Images button
3. Choose the
Drawing option in the Choose Image Source form and click on
the Continue button
4. In the scanning
details form check the Use Onion Skins checkbox, this will enable you
to see the position of the ball on the previous frame
We`ll have a try at a
traditional `bouncing ball` animation excercise
4. Set the fill colour
to use by left-clicking on the toolbar Fill Colour option.
This will bring up a
colour dialog box so you can pick a colour. Alternatively, choose one
from the palette at the bottom of the screen.
5. Now left-click the
Ellipse toolbar option.
6. Using the mouse or
pen (if using a drawing tablet) draw the first ball in the top right
hand corner, making it quite small.
7. Left-click on the
Next Frame toolbar button. A new frame will be created with a pale
image of the ball from the first frame visible.
8. Draw the next ball
slightly below the first and slightly bigger, as if it`s coming
toward the `camera`. then left-click the Next Frame button again to
bring up the next next to draw, this time showing a pale image of the
second frame as a guide to where to draw the third image.
9. repeat the drawing
routine until the ball is about to touch the lowest point on the
screen. The `squash` frame, as shown below, is the next
drawing.
10. Below is an
illustration of the finished pattern of movement for the ball. note
that the ball starts each move with a smaller difference between each
image, getting larger as it moves toward the edge of the frame where
it squashes then springs out again, accelerating as it does
so.
When you`ve completed
your ball drawings, play it back to see the effect.
