On behalf of the reserve team management I would like to thank all the players that have represented Tarporley Vics reserves this season, and believe the year has been a great success.  We surpassed last years points tally, finishing above both teams that finished above us last year.  We have been to two cup finals winning one and a creditable effort in the other.

Thanks

Andy + Al

Saturday 16th May 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Lostock Grahlam Reserves AJ Cooke  final
Today's Squad: Chris Jones,  Steve Lightfoot, Jack Heaton (capt),  Shaun Packham, Adam Nichols,  Pete Aidley,  Matt Dean, Mark Dale,  Sam Lloyd, Joe Marley, Sam Winter, Stew Walker, Adam Williams,  Tom Wilson, Dom Whitehead, Dan Lloyd
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 2  Lostock Reserves 4   Scorers:  Mark Dale, Joe Marley
Tarporley were hesident in the first half playing against a slight breeze.  Conditions were difficult with rainstorms and strong gusts of wind.  Vics were denied by the woodwork before a Vics mistake let in Lostock to pick up the pieces and take the lead. Lostock increased their lead in a second series of errors and went in at halftime 2-0 down.
The second half was a different story, Vics now in charge and causing the trouble, Mark Dale struck a great shot from period of pressure to set he game alight.  Sam Winter 10 minutes later but this was ruled out for off side.  Several more half chances came and went but with 6 minutes to go Joe Marley netted to set the score at 2-2.  With the game now looking like extra time a well worked chance from a Lostock individual restored their lead within 3 minutes.  With no alternative Vics threw caution to the wind an pushed forward to chase an equaliser but were undone again in the final minute.

Managers Comments: A game of two halves, the first half dominated by Lostock but a great  effort from the Vics to come back, a moments loss of concentration turning the game in Lostocks favour.  Today we were undone by our own mistakes which was an unusual event in the later part of the season

MOM for today Joe Marley, worked his socks off from whistle to whistle

Saturday 9th May 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V MMU AJ Cooke semi final
Today's Squad: Chris Jones,  Steve Lightfoot, Jack Heaton (capt),  Shaun Packham, Stew Walker,  Pete Aidley,  Matt Dean, Mark Dale,  Joe Marley, Sam Winter, Rob Edge, Sam Lloyd, Matt Williams, Adam Nichols, Matt Carr, Adam Williams
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 1 (AET 1 Pens 3)  Curshaws 1 (AET 1 Pens 0)   Scorers:  Steve Lightfoot
Following on from a great final we played our first game on the Flacca, another great occasion for the young reserve side.  MMU fielded a strong side again, one that had gained so much success in the recent weeks. Vics played with the slope but against a slight breeze, the game was very competitive with MMU just having the edge  but not creating real opportunities, on 40 minutes there was a big turning point in the game when Sam Winter chased down a ball that the keeper hit at him stacking the odds for Winter to score, the MMU keeper had different ideas and rugby tackled Sam Winter resulting a Vics penalty and dismissal for the MMU keeper.  Steve Lightfoot dispatched the penalty with confidence and put us in front.
During the second half it was MMU with 10 men that exerted the pressure but wee continually denied by either good tackles or great collections from Jones in the Vics net.  A great strike finally beat him to level the score a 1-1.  MMU created the better chances in the closing period and a series of superb lat ditch tackles from Jack Heaton kept them at bay.  Extra time came and went but no change to the score so penalties were the order of the day.

MMU 1, saved by Jones, Vics 1 saved, MMU 2 hit bar, Vics 2 Sam Lloyd scores, MMU 3 Wide, Vics 3 Matt Dean Score, MMU 4, saved by Jones, Vics go through

Managers Comments: Another terrific team performance today, all players competing well against a very strong MMU side, fantastic heroics from Jones in goal and a cool set of penalties

MOM for today Jack Heaton

Saturday 2nd May 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Curshaws Junior Shield Final
Today's Squad: Chris Jones,  Steve Lightfoot, Jack Heaton (capt),  Shaun Packham, Stew Walker,  Pete Aidley,  Matt Dean, Mark Dale,  Joe Marley, Sam Winter, Rob Edge, Adam Williams, Sam Lloyd, Matt Carr, Adam Nichols, Matt Williams

Result: Tarporley Vics Res 3  Curshaws 0    Scorers:  Rob Edge, Pete Aidley, Joe Marley
Our first final and against good opposition, for some this was the first final they had played in, the atmosphere was good we had an healthy edge in the dressing room. This we took to the pitch and while not dominating the opening period we were a match.  It was the Vics who opened the scoring when Jonesy hit a long ball that cleared the defenders head and Edgy ( not for thefirst time this year) nipped in behind and headed over he advancing keeper.  Minutes later Vics almost doubled their tally when Sam Winter was denied b the bar.  On the defensive front the usual culprits were dealing with whatever was delivered, timely interceptions, good tackles nd a hard working midfield mopped up bits to see us take the 1-0 lead in at half time.
During the second half confidence grew and our football quality increased, for this e were rewarded with a great Pete Aidley goal.  Curshaws introduced there top scorer who was returning from injury, Vics changed to match his pace and introduced fresh blood, this was rewarded with a Joe Marley goal to put the game beyond Curshaws and give the reserves there first trophy

Managers Comments: A terrific team performance today, all players without exception on the top of their game and I think we delivered a worthy winning performance, the night out wasn't bad either

MOM can only go down to the whole team, well done boys

Wednesday 29th April 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V MMU (Home) League
Today's Squad: Paul Gregory, Adam Nichols, Steve Lightfoot, Jack Heaton (capt), Stew Walker,  Tom Wilson,  Matt Dean, Mark Dale,  Matt Carr, Al Taylor, Sam Winter,  James Cooke, Matt Williams, Pete Aidley, Adam Williams, Sam Lloyd,
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 0  MMU 5    Scorers:
Tarporley change of squad started slowly and MMU exerted the pressure, a much changed MMU side had pace and drive and capitalised on all our frailties running out worthy winners

Managers Comments: A poor performance tonight against a much stronger MMU side highlighting some weakness when our side is stretched

Saturday 25th April 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Bentley (Home) League
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Steve Lightfoot, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Stew Walker,  Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Mark Dale,  Matt Carr, Joe Marley, Sam Winter,  Patrick Anderson, Matt Williams, Al Marley.
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 2  Bentley 3    Scorers:  Joe Marley, Steve Lightfoot
Bentley started brightley and it took a while for Vics to settle but when we did we strted to play well and were rewarded with a Joe Marley goal, the bar denied him  of a second but a lapse at the back let Bentley back in to leave the score at 1-1
Second half was perhaps more positive for Vics in the opening 10 and a rash challenge on Sam Winter rsultedin a penlty which was converted by Steve Lightfoot.  A series of 3 excellent chances in 5 minutes went begging but no reward.  Bentley were not ready to give up and pounced on a couple of mistakes to take a 3-2 lead.  Vics were then in the driving seat and saw a series of chances created but none were able to level the.

Managers Comments: The one goal difference jinx struck again today, as a positive we created more chances than in any other Bentley game and were probably less thratened at the back. Not finishing and lapses s the back cost us dear today but y no means a bad performance

Wednesday 22nd April 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Sandbach Town (Away) League
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Steve Lightfoot, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Dom Whithead, Joe Marley, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Mark Dale,  Sam Winter, Rob Edge, Patrick Anderson, Matt Williams, Al Marley.
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 2  Sandbach Town 0    Scorers:  Joe Marley, Pete Aidley
A team that was focused started this game, creating trouble from the onset, we played with real quality, controlling midfield playing simple free flowing football in very difficult conditions and were rewarded with two goals the firts from a flicked head of Joe Marley and the second from Pete Aidley
Second half was Sanbach started to do what they do well and played with pace, venom and a long ball, this stiffled Vics play and meant we defended more though the last 10 minutes we createdenough chances to increase the lead.

Managers Comments: A terrific first half on a difficult pitch, a performance that the management enjoyed.  Great work rate from Joe Marley in a new position, Rob Edge, Matt Dean, Mark Dale and Pete Aidley all on there game as were the ever reliable Jack H and Shaun P.  Even the early subsitiutio of Dom W through injury had little impact as Matt Williams also produced his best perormance in a Vics shirt.  A great result through a combined collection of good football, heart and belief

MOM  We have a squad that makes this hard on any week but tonight our team performance in the first half was a pleasure and net result the squad share the accolade tonight.

Saturday 11th April 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Lostock Reserves (Away) League
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Williams, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Dom Whithead, Jonny Haslam,, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Matt Carr, Joe Marley,  Sam Winter, Steve Lightfoot, Mark Dale, Sam Lloyd, Matt Williams.
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 0  Lostock Grahlam Reserves 1    Scorers:
A game that had a bitter taste from last week but none the less it would be tough.  This weekVics Started much more positively, resticting Lostock a lot more than last week and creating more.  The first period of 10 minutes was open and fast then our first injurym Dom Whitehead replaced by Steve Lightfoot, 10 minutes later it was Jonny Haslam that had to leave through injury.  Vics then conceed from a great delivery from the Lostock full back that was unfortuantely steered in to our goal.  Vics created an excellent opportunity but  no luck today and the keeper saved, a great save just before half time kept Lostock in front.  At half time we made our third change through injury, with Mark Dale replacing Matt Carr
Second half was a great game of football, Lostock thinking they were through but denied by timely tackles, 2 calls for penalties by the Vics, a second denied by the post for Lostock and a last minute save from Dale that was absolute class.

Managers Comments: One of our best performances and a great sign of our maturing team.  The 3 substitutes today all added to the game, an excellent display from Lighty and Mark Dale and all the regular performeres on top of there game.  If you can ever be happy with a defeat then today is it.  Great commitment good football and excellent sprit, another day that performance will give you an easy win

MOM  A tough choice today, again the usual contenders of Heaton and Packham, Lightfoots best display of the year and an outstanding 2nd half for Dale but todays MOM goes to Adam Williams playing a difficult pacey winger and a couple of outstanding tackles in his own box with the pressure on

Saturday 4th April 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Lostock Reserves (Home) League
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Dom Whithead, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Matt Carr, Joe Marley, Rob Edge, Sam Winter, Adam Williams, Mark Dale, Stew Walker,  Matt Williams.
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 1  Lostock Grahlam Reserves 1    Scorers:  Rob Edge
A game that would certainly count to-wards league tittles for someone no matter what the result. Lostock currently 2nd but with games in hand, Tarporly 4th hoping to capatilise on mistakes.  Lostock started very sharply and showed they meant business, they were strong and dominated the air and gave Vics no time to play football.  On 10 minutes a long clearance from Chris Jones beat Lostocks last man and Rob Edge pounced to nod the bounce past the Lostock keeper.  The team worked hard but for very little reward unable to get the ball on the ground or keep it long enough to play football.  10 minutes before the end of the first half an unsavory incident led to a Lostock dismissal and confrontation from the line.  Vics managed to keep focus and came in at half time 1-0 to the good.
Second half Lostock were very direct and there strength in midfield stretched the vics, Lostock line failed to settle and had two spectators dismissed from the pitch.  A series of great saves from Chris Jones, some very good tackles and a goal line clearance from Stew Walker kept Lostock at bay, 15 minutes from time a mistake just outside our box resulted in a Lostock goal.  Vics extra man opened up gaps as Lostock pushed fro a winner and there were several near misses and some great saves to deny Tarporley the win in the last 5 minutes.

Managers Comments: Certainly our hardest fought game of the season. Lostock were a strong physical side with a line that made life difficult.  Whilst we were intimidated, as a whole we dealt with it well and it shows the progress made.  Hard to say if it was a point gained or two points lost but credit to all for sticking at it

MOM  A defensive day today, again the usual contenders but todays outstanding performnces was Jack Heaton and Chris Jones who share the honors

Saturday 28th March 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Cuddington (Home) League
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Dom Whithead, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Jonny Haslam, Joe Marley, Rob Edge, Sam Winter, Adam Williams, Steve Lightfoot, Stew Walker,  Matt Williams.
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 3  Cuddington 0    Scorers:  Sam Lloyd 1,  Rob Edge 2
Another tough game on the cards today, Cuddington and Tarporley just outside the leading positions but with games in hand and a local derby.  Tarporley started playing into the difficult wind and were very limited in the first 20 minutes with most work being done in our own half. Then we had the break through and in truth against he run of play, some fantastic footwork from Joe Marley beating two players on the line and delivered a great cross to th feet of Rob Edge who did his very best to miss but it went in any way.  This gave the Vics the lift they need to compete on a more even playing field and the remainder of the half was pretty much end to end.
Second half the easing wind was still in our favour and the small errors we saw in the first half were now gone and it was Cuddington who were stretched. Vics began to open up Cuddington and a very determined Jonny Haslam delivered a great ball to Sam Lloyd who netted to make it 2-0.  Vics introduced Stew Walker and Adam Williams to control and freshen.  The second goal had made a big impact on Cuddington who were now much less lively, Vics capatilised on this and were very unlucky not to increase there lead when Pete Aidley was denied by an awsome interception and the post denied Deano.  Sam Winter replaced Jonny Haslam and Rob Edge notched to make it 3-0, the game now well beyond Cuddington.

Managers Comments: Were moving into the battle period and much of the game was played in a tight midfield, quite similar to training on Wednesday but examples of our work rate was Edgy making tackles (bad ones) on the edgeof our 18 yards and Shaun launching forward as first man out of denfence.  Today was a great example of grinding out a result and overall a great performance

MOM  Again class performances from the usual suspects of Heaton and Packham and Jones in goal, Midfield worked hard to win the battle and forwards did their jobs with goals. This weeks MOM goes to Jonny Haslam returning from 1st team duties and had a big influence on todays game.

Saturday 21st March 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Sandbach Town (Away) Crewe FA district vase
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Dom Whithead, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Mark Dale, Joe Marley, Sam Winter, Adam Williams, Steve Lightfoot, Stew Walker, Matt Carr, Rob Edge, Matt Williams.
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 4  Sanbach Town 3 (AET)    Scorers:  Sam Lloyd 2, Joe Marley 1, Rob Edge 1
Third meeting of the season, cup game going in favour of Sandbach on penalties and League victory to the Vics.  Sandbach are a big side and today were blessed with a full squad.  The game started tentatively both sides finding there feet, as the Vics settled we started to create chances but the Sandbach keeper looked to match every effort on 30 minutes the deadlock was broken when Sam Lloyd put us in front, we were now clearly in charge and 5 minutes later increased the lead when Joe Marley pounced onto a through ball.  For the next 5 minutes we looked to have the game and had broken Sandbach, how wrong we were, a magnificent through ball combined with a well time run and superb strike put Sanbach back in the game.  Vics go in at half time 2-1 up.
Second half Vics started well and looked to have the game back in control, a Pete Aidley run saw him fetched down and Vics awarded a penalty.  Whilst the penalty was not the best credit must be given to the Sandbach keeper who denied us again.  Several more chances came and went many denied by the inform keeper.  Defensively we also had to be alert the direct strong attackers were not the easiest pair to play against and they had some determination to see this game through.  It was Sandbach who netted next, a good call for offside was overruled, Jonesy took a blow in his attempt to save and the ball ran free for the Sandbach striker to push it passed the stretch foot of Jacko.
Vics still in the hunt were next to score when Sam Lloyd slid his second of the day post side of the keper.  28 minutes still to play plus injury time, at 90 minutes the linesman indicated we were in injury time, 2 minutes later Sanbach equalised, still 3 minutes to play but despite having the better chances there was no real opportunity to finish the game.
Extra time now being played, Vics having more of the play but goal opportunities were fewer, at the end of the first half the game had penalties written all over it.  Half way through the second half Vics won another corner and we made our last substitution introducing Penalty taker Steve Lightfoot in preparation.  Sam Lloyd delivered the corner which wa met by Rob Edge to put us back in front.  The last 7 or 8 minutes went very slow, Sandbach changing formation to squeeze an equaliser but we stood strong winning 4-3 and earning a place in our first final

Managers Comments: Certainly not pure football, but a gutsy performance against a big strong willed Sandbach team. Well done boys.

MOM  Notable performances from the usual suspects of Heaton and Packham and Jones in goal, Midfield worked often for little reward in the middle, the sides with more success but today the player who performed to his very best Adam Nichols.

Saturday 14th March 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Bentley AJ Cooke (Away)
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Dom Whithead, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Mark Dale, Joe Marley, Sam Winter, Adam Williams, Steve Lightfoot, Matt Williams,  Ali Marley
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 4  Bentley 0    Scorers:  Sam Lloyd 2, Joe Marley 1, Own Goal
Another tough game on paper today, in 5 meetings we have never secured any result against Bentley, loosing by one goal on every occasion.  Our opposition didn't have the same look as earlier in the season but would no doubt still be competent players.  Vics played into the wind during the 1st half and had to work hard to get forward.  Playing wide was our key and Joe Marley looked to receive in wide positions, Sam Winter working the front line but never neglecting his tracking back.  The back 4 had there hands full as any little flick from the Bentley forwards created dangerous situations.  On each attack we looked dangerous, with Joe Marley getting fouled on a number of occasions, then we had the breakthrough and again Joe picking the ball up wide beat his man and delivered a great cross, this found Sam Lloyd on the back post who dispatched a great shot to beat the keeper.  Ten minutes later it was Sam Lloyd again who found the ball at his feet in the box, this time he had more work to do to create a shooting opportunity, he did and netted his second of the day. Defensively we rode our luck at times but competed well, close down quickly and were alert.  Jonesy in goal more than equal to anything that cam at him and only had to deal with half hit shots, but did do very well collecting through balls.  Half time 2-0 and a second half with the wind to come.
Bentley introduced an ex Nantwich Town player in the second half and changed there shape to compete with the wind.  Vics were now camped in the Bentley half, with Bentley struggling to create anything, an indication of how well we had done in the first half.  A series of half chances came and went, some narrowly missing whilst other were a bit wild, some good saves and last minute tackles looked to be denying the Vics of  more goals but  predator Joe Marley latched onto a spilled ball to net the third, constant pressure resulted in a series of free kicks and corners, one well delivered corner met the outstretched foot of a Bentley player and into his own net.  Sam Winter also found the net but it was disallowed for handball.

Managers Comments: Not a classic this week spoiled by the very strong wind, but a very genuine team, hard working effort that gave its just reward.

MOM Again some notable performances, Sam Winters first half contribution was excellent as was that of Shaun, Jack and Mark Dale but this week MOM goes to Joe Marley who worked hard and intelligently for the whole team.

Saturday 7th March 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Cuddington (Away)
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Dom Whithead, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Mark Dale, Rob Edge, Sam Winter, Adam Williams, Matt Carr, Steve Lightfoot, Matt Williams,  Ali Marley
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 2  Cuddington 0    Scorers:  Sam Winter 2
Today we played local opposition, last years 1st division champions and in a good league position again this season.  Top scoring striker Joe Marley had been rewarded for his consistent performances with a start for the 1st team away at Runcorn, creating an opportunity for Sam Winter to make his first start for the club.  Tarporley were definitely up for this one and came out of the blocks ready to play.  Within the opening 5 minutes an opening created for Edgy who lifted it over the bar, Vics then created a series of  efforts that resulted in nothing, being let down by a final cross, save from the keeper or missing the target.  It was Cuddington that created the nearest opportunity a great strike from distance was tipped on to the bar by Jonesy but on 40 minutes the breakthrough came and a good finish from Sam Winter put us in front.
Second half and now playing against the wind we expected a tougher half, whilst the play wasnt as far into the Cuddington half it was still in the Vics favour.Midfield began to bite and the composure of Jack Heaton and Shaun Packham in the center of defence were difficult to break down.  Jonesy stayed focused in goal and dealt with all the through balls well.  Sam Lloyd and Pete Aidley were now causing trouble and opportunities kept coming, the second goal came from a Pete Aidley run and cross, it was Sam Winter once again on the end of it.

Managers Comments: Another superb performance, perhaps our best to date.  The consistency of players performance making squad and team selection very difficult.  As a management team we were very pleased today with the conduct, work rate, chances created, composure an all round top class performance.

MOM This week was the most difficult choice to date, with great performances from all the back four especially the central pair, Mark Dale and Pete Aidley in midfield and no one can knock Deanos commitment in this one, two goals for Sam Winter and trouble all round from Edgy.  But todays individual show above his norm was Sam Lloyd, worked hard, tracked back and delivered the goods

Saturday 21st February 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Winnington (Away)
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Williams, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham , Steve Lightfoot, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Mark Dale, Rob Edge, Joe Marley, Matt Williams,  Sam Winter, Adam Nichols, Stew Walker
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 1  Winnington 1    Scorers:  Steve Lightfoot1
Today's opposition was high flying Winnington, currently second in the table and one of the inform teams. Again we started sprightly and early signs were that Winningtons strength was midfield and weakness at the back.  We soaked up the midfield pressure and broke down the Winnington back four but we failed to find the net. More of the same but it was Pete Aidley who made the break and was fetched down, Steve Lightfoot converted from the spot.  Vics probably had less possession playing against the wind but looked comfortable but on 35 minutes a good cross from Winnington was steered past our keeper by a lunging defender, half time 1-1
Second half Vics played with the wind and in the first 15 looked the stronger, but Winnington were still running the midfield and began to work there way into the game and become the dominant force. Vics would not give the game up and worked hard to get through it and by the closing 5 were again in charge.

Managers Comments: A game that was played mostly in midfield, very few shots from either side and despite our initial thoughts on Winnington a good performance from there defence as from ours.

MOM This week has to go to our Aussie Shaun Packham who was outstanding in a good defensive performance

Saturday 14th February 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Malpas (Home)
Today's Squad: Chris Jones, Adam Williams, Dom Whitehead, Shaun Packham (capt), Steve Lightfoot, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Carr, Mark Dale, Rob Edge, Joe Marley, Matt Williams,  Sam Winter, Matt Dean, Paul Gregory, Stew Walker
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 3  Malpas 0    Scorers:  Sam Lloyd 1, Joe Marley 1, Pete Aidley 1
Today nothing was left to chance, everybody arrived on time and a good constructive warm up meant we came out of the blocks ready to go. None of the edginess of the last game and our style was a bit more confident. Malpas as usual were difficult team to break down and continually disrupted the game to stop football being played.
We were rewarded for the stronger start and numerous free kicks with Sam Lloyd goal, he met a poor clearance and looped the shot high over the keeper and into the net.  Midfield then ahd a period of the game and created space for the forwards.  Joe Marley added a second pouncing onto a great Pete Aidley run and cross.
At this stage Malpas realised thing were not going to be easy for them and started chopping players down and trying to pull the Vics down to there level to conpete.  Vics stuck at there game and were cruelly denied a third but went at half time 2-0 up
Second half Malpas came close a few times in the opening 10 minutes but either good tackles or great saves from Chris in the Vics goal kept them at bay.  A injury to Dom Whithead who was having an excellent game and Matt Carr meant a double substitution and five minutes later the 3rd sub was on again through injury.  For a period Malpas looked to be getting back into the game but we showed that bit of grit, the back four were now having to play there part, under the guidance of skipper Shaun Packham his young side kick Adam Wiliams came more and more into the game and between them with Jonesy also in good form boxed up the middle.  Lighty and Matt W limiting wing options.  Determination from Sam Winter, Pete Aidley Matt Dean and co forced Vics back in to the game once in charge the Malpas keeper was called on a number of times to make good saves.  Pete Aidley put the game beyond doubt at 80 minutes with Vics third of the day.

Managers Comments: A game that Malpas tried to intimidate and for a period they did but the team pulled together to come away worthy winners, good performances today from Adam Williams, Dom Whithead and Shaun in defence, Matt Dean made good impact when he arrived on the scene and Pete Aidley still controlled much of the forward game from the right hand side.  Sam Winter also showed he meant business in the difficult forward role.

MOM This week Chris Jones, good concentration, excellent hands and a few good saves too in order to keep a clean sheet.

Saturday 24th January 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V MMU Cheshire (Away)
Today's Squad: Paul Gregory, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham, Dom Whithead, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Carr, Mark Dale, Rob Edge, Joe Marley, Adam Williams, Steve Lightfoot, Sam Winter, Matt Dean, Matt Williams,
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 4  MMU Cheshire 2    Scorers:  Joe Marley 2, Rob Edge, Sam Winter
Despite being at the ground in plenty of time, we initially struggled to find a dressing room, but that was easier than finding the pitch, 4 pitches later 3 with teams in red, we found the poorest pitch on the campus and were now right on kick off
We missed the warm up and were a little edgy in the opening 10 minutes but began to exert pressure and missed chances began to stack up, opportunities missed by half the squad, we did get the ball in the net but it was disallowed for pushing, then completely against the run of play MMU sprung an opportunity which in fairness was finished well.  This was a wake up call and within minutes the scores was at 1-1 when Joe Marley pounced on a Rob Edge chance that had hit the bar.  More chances came and went with only one 1/2 chance presented to MMU
Second half  we thought we would share the better part of the pitch but it turned out there was no great part.  Vics worked hard but nothing really run for us today but a touch of class from Matt Carr produced a quality through ball that Rob Edged got a foot on to steer it passed the keeper.  We introduced some fresh legs with Ad Williams and new signing Sam Winter. This direct approach paid dividends Sam Winter netting and an assist to put us 4-1 up.  Again we found the net but this time disallowed  for offside.  The ref made a big error with an offside decision that let MMU net a second and gave a final score of 4-2.

Managers Comments: A strange game this one, I think we played quite well but for a long period we could have come away with nothing or alternatively could have scored a dozen.  Some more good performances from the squad thats developing week on week.  A great debut for Sam Winter one which gives me another headache in team selection as does the performances from Mark Dale in midfield..

MOM This week is Mark Dale a top class performance.

Saturday 17th January 2009    Tarporley Vics Reserves V Sandbach United (Home)
Today's Squad: Paul Gregory, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Shaun Packham, Dom Whithead, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Carr, Jonny Haslam, Rob Edge, Joe Marley, Steve Lightfoot, Mark Dale, Tom Wilson, Matt Williams, Adam Williams
Result: Tarporley Vics Res 4  Sandbach United 2    Scorers:  Joe Marley 2, Jonny Haslam, Pete Aidley
A tough game envisaged as Sandbach have been in good form since the abandoned game in November.  Tarporley playing with the wind had the edge in the opening 15 mins, Sandbach were defending well getting bodies behind the ball and snubbing out the attacks, Vics coming closest from a series of well delivered corners from Sam Lloyd. The next 10 minutes of play was a well contested affair with neither team dominating but Sandbach were conceding more free kicks and it was from of these they were punished.  Up stepped Jonny Haslam at about 35 yards from  goal a very confident strike went round the wall and beat a fully stretched keeper straight in to the goal hitting the side netting, a truly great goal. Within 5 minutes Sandbach had forced there way into the Vics box and an untidy tackle from Dom resulted in a penalty from which they levelled the score.  This stirred up the Vics and we really began to chase lost causes in an effort to force errors, one of these was Rob Edge who chased a dead ball into the corner making a great tackle no further than a yard from the corner flag getting away from his man and delivering a great ball to Joe Marley to score his 1st of the day.  5 minutes later a long clearance from Gregs was pounced on by Joe M who very casually rounded the keeper and slotted his second of the day.  Half time 3-1 up but a lot to do.

Second half  was going to be tough against the wind and indeed there was a shift in play with the big proportion of the game now being played in our half.  Jack H and Shaun Packham were now playing a key role in the game and started to show there class dealing with everything that was thrown at them, intercepting, tackling, heading and delivering without wasting the ball.  Rob Edge and Joe Marley always giving an outlet for the hard working midfield. 15 minutes in and we were dealt a bitter blow with a deflected  shot beating the keeper. Ten further minutes battling and we made changes introducing Mark Dale, This was followed by the introduction of Tom Wilson. A resoundingly solid performance right through the middle, with Mark Dale in top form filling the midfield gap from defence we started opening up Sandbach, Joe Marley and Rob Edge both being denied by great saves from the Sandbach keeper. The increased pressure paid off when Pete Aidley latched on to the end of a well delivered ball and it looped over the keeper. The pressure was now off, Sandbach were resilient but Vics were strong and saw the game through.

Managers Comments: A terric performance today against a good team.  Today we showed maturity, skill, guts and passion this is a winning combination.  Some perormance worthy of a mention, Mark Dale an outstanding spell in the middle of midfield, Joe Marley terrific effort throughout and the partnership with Rob looks better week on week.

MOM This week is a joint affair and goes to the Jack Heaton, Shaun Packham team top class the both of you.

Saturday 29th November    Vics 7 v Winnington Ave Reserves 0 Scorer(s): Rob Edge 2, Joe Marley 2, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Mark Dale

Saturday 29/11/2008 Away to Winnington Ave Reserves
Vics followed on from where they left off last week, playing neat and deliberate football in the opening 20 minutes.  This period was fruitfull with the opener coming from a very composed Rob Edge, a second was added by Sam Lloyd following a suprb but simple series of passes from a throw in and delivery from Soulman. It was the ever improving Joe Marley who's determination and neat skills added the third.  Vics then struggled a bit taking there foot off the gas against a side that going forward were of a decent standard.  Composure and some quaity tackles by Jack Heaton and Shaun Packham in the back four kept our lead intact, only being beaten by one quality through ball. Towards the end of the half it was Rob Edge who increased the lead further. By half time the frustration in Winnington had started to effect ther game and internal arguments had started.
Vics now composed quickley put the game to bed when Pete Aidley added another, at the hour Vics made 3 changes but there ws no change to the style of play.  Winnington continued to perform going forward but were always matched by Jack H and Shaun and defensively they continued to show there vulnerability and conceeded a further 2 goals one each from Joe Marley and Mark Dale.

Managers Comments:  Confidence and composure in front of goal was the key today and it produced our bes result to date.  Just as important as high scores in our favour is the zero conceded, not easy when forwards are free running but the back four and keeper stayed focussed for the duration a key to success, well done gents

Saturday 22nd November    Vics 1 v Curshaws 2 Scorer(s): Mark Dale

Curshaws are a formidable side and know how to score goals.  Today they came accross a quickley maturing Vics side that made life very difficult.  Vics were a little hesitant in the opening 5 minutes having suffered in the last game against Curshaws but confidence grew with each minute played.  The back four looked to be in complete control and limited Curshaws to hopeful punts, midfield could either battle or play football matching or bettering Curshaws with either, Joe M and Mark Dale tretchig the Curshaws defence, it was this combination who scored the opener, Joe used some neat footwork, pace and guts to deliver a killer cross that was not dealt with, a quick layback found the feet of Mark Dale ho nailed his shot.  The remainder of the half was a tight affair.
Second half Vics remained in control and created a number of oppertunities that should have increased the lead.  Curshaws forced a corner20 minutes from time that came out to the feet of Curshas player who struck the ball well, hiting the undersideof the cross bar down into the goal and back out, the goal hoever was given. Vics back on the attack again but failed to get a second, and bitterly conceeded on a rare Curshaw attack final score 2-1 in Curshaws favour

Managers Comments: Certainly our most mature performance to date, a difficult pitch and strong opposition but we won every battle and could still play great football.  Reproduce this on a regular basis and this side is definately on the up

Vics team - Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Shaun Packham, Rob Sinnott, Pete Aidley, Stew Walker, Matt Dean, Sam Lloyd, Mark Dale, Joe Marley    MOM - Team award great performance

Saturday 16th November    Vics 1 v Sandbach United 0 Scorer(s): Joe Marley

Todays opposition were difficult to predict, they have had some very good results against the best teams and lost out against others where they should have won.  Vics started well on a difficult pitch playing a 4-4-2 formation against a Sandbach team that had set its stall 4-5-1.  As our last game much of the game was in midfield and a fairly even battle, Vics having the attacking edge as the sole striker for Sandbach was snuffed out by our new look back 4.  The first 45 minutes came and went with no nailed on chances for either team.
On the hour Vics introduced Steve Lightfoot to the back 4 with Dan Lloyd taking up the keepers jersey due to injury to Chris Jones and Rob Edge came into the attack.  The changes looked good with Rob holding up the ball and Dan looking solid in goal and Lighty snubbing Sandbach play.  Vics now began to assert themselves and a bit of movement from Rob Edge created a gap for Joe Marley who slotted home  for Vics to take the lead. With 15 to play Vics now looked in real control and began to look worthy of the win. Sandbach forced themselves forward and Dan pulled of a great save thiswas followed by a mellay of activity but finally the ball was cleared but Dan Lloyd was down and clearly injured.

At this point there was 87 minutes on the clock but 5 minutes extra time to be played for injuries and stoppages.  A quick assesment of the injury showed a dislocated knee and clearly no activity until the medics arrived.  At this point the game was abandoned.  Thanks goes to Sandbach for there understanding and the fast response medic who put Dans knee back in on the pitch.

Managers comments:  From what looked to be a hard earned victory with some great performances from Joe Marley, Pete Aidley and the defence to name a few, events overtook the day.  I wish Dan a speedy recovery and looking forward to naming him the squad again

Vics team - Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Shaun Packham, Dan Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Stew Walker, Matt Dean, Sam Lloyd, Mark Dale, Joe, Marley, Steve Lightfoot, Rob Edge,Matt Carr    MOM - Joe Marley

Saturday 8th November    Vics 3 v MMU 1 District Shield  Scorer(s): Pete Aidley 2, Joe Marley

Having sruggled defensively for the last few weeks, today we were blessed with Dom Whithead home from Uni ad international clearance for Aussie Shaun Packham.  This allowed us to have a better shape to the team.  This shape paid dividends from the off, we were better able to deal with a capable MMU side who liked to go forward, andthis led us us being able to get forward ourselves.  The opening goal was a well delivered corner on to the head of a free Pete Aidley. For the next 20 minutes both teams cancelled each other out but a pinpoint ball from Rob Edge beat the MMU defence and Pete Aidley pounced for his second.

Second half MMU had changed there formation slightly and add the wind favour to this they were in a better position to challenge.  MMU did manage to find the net and were hopeful   of pushing on to force a draw but our own Christiano Marley had different idas and produced a fabulous individual goal to give us a 3-1 lead and put the game beyond MMU and see the Vics through to the next round.

Managers comments:  A great performance following two bad weeks on the road with some great individual performances, special note to Jack Heaton and new comer Shaun Packham at the back and Rob Edge who led  the front line and produced a performance worthy of MOM on a normal week.

Vics team - Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Dom Whitehead, Dan Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Matt Dean, Stew Walker, Sam Lloyd, Rob Edge, Mark Dale, Shaun Packham, Joe Marley, Steve Lightfoot, Matt Williams    MOM - Pete Aidley just out doing Rob EDge

Saturday 1st November    Vics 2 v Boarhound 6 Scorer(s): Steve Lightfoot, Rob Edge

Tarporley started well and were unlucky to go behind to a penalty that was saved, rebounded, saved again before finding its way into the net.  Vics stuck at there task and were themselves rewarded with a penalty that was slotted home cleanly by Steve Lightfoot. Now in control we extended our lead when  Rob Edge found the net on the half hour.  Thanks to a good save from Jonesy right on half time we went in with a 2-1 lead ad looked good value for money.

Two chances  fell to Vics in the opening 5 minutes of the second half but first goal went to Boarhound with a Vics own goal, this was quickly followed by a poor goal, not closed down and a sliced shot put Boarhound 3-2 up. At 20 minutes in to the half another defencive error led to a fourth goal. Boarhound scored a fifth with a magnificent shot and a 6th frm a double booble that again should have been sorted by 2 defenders

Managers Comments:  Midfield and forwards look comfertable and continue to give headaches for selection, defensively however we are not performing as well as we need to and its this area we will need to improve if we want to suceed this season

Vics team - Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton (capt), Steve Lightfoot, Dan Lloyd, Rob Jones, Mat Carr, Matt Dean, Pete Aidley, Rob Edge, Mark Dale, Joe Marley, Sam Lloyd, Rob Walker, Matt Williams    MOM - Matt Dean

Sunday 26th October    Vics 1 v Curshaws 6 Scorer(s): Matt Dean

A bad day at the office today, Vics were 1-0 down within the first few minutes.  We were so desperate to get back into the game thatour concentration was poor that led to a series of mistakes and at half time we found oursleve 4-0 down.  The score however doesnt reflect the game we had also had 2 one on ones with the keeper and a string of other chances and could easily have gone in 5-4 up.
The second half was similar in style of play with both teams creating a number of chances and neither defending particularly well.  Vics did net one from a Matt Dean strike but conceded another 2.

Managers Comments: Not a class performance today, vulnerable on both sides at the back against a decent footballing team.  We did create opportunities and the introduction of Danny Lloyd created so much more for us.

Vics team - Paul Gregory, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Stew Walker, Steve Lightfoot, Rob Jones Matt Carr, Matt Dean, Pete Aidley, Joe Marley, Rob Edge, Sam Lloyd, MarkDale, Dan Lloyd, Chris Jones, Matt Williams    MOM - Rob Jones

Saturday 18th October    Vics 1 v Bentley 2 Scorer(s): Rob Jones

A very competitive and even game at what is a difficult place to go.  Bentley side had changed somewhat from last season and had introduced a number of younger quality players but it was Vics who dominated the first half playing the better football and creating the better chances.  Jonny Haslam was denied by a great save but it was a Rob Jones free kick that opened up the scoring.  Vics had a few opportunities to increase the lead and were also doing a good job limiting Bentley.

The second half it was Bentley with the edge and they levelled 10 minutes into the second half.  For the next 20 minutes the games was end to end but as our legs tired Bentley came strong and for the last 15 we were hanging on.  The clock clicked onto 49 minutes and Bentley took the lead squeezing the ball through a desperate back 4.  The ref announced 4 minutes to play and the Vics pushed forward to try and get the equaliser.  A fracas high into the Bentley half saw an unsavoury incident and the loss of three players.  Vics continued to push for the last few minutes and were camped in the Bentley half but not able to break them down.

Managers comments: A second week where we performed well and took nothing home.  Overall today’s performance was very solid, with more positives, than negatives. A better balance in the wide midfield positions between defensive and attacking duties and we will be pretty much complete

Vics team - Paul Gregory, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Stew Walker, Steve Lightfoot, Rob Jones Matt Carr, Sam Lloyd, Joe Marley, Rob Edge, Jonny Haslam, MarkDale, Sean Marsh, Tom Wilson, Rob Walker, Dan Lloyd    MOM - Jack Heaton

Saturday 11th October    Vics 2 (3 penalties) v Sandbach Town 2 (4 penaties) Scorer(s): Joe Marley (2)

A very young squad started today’s game and despite there age competed physically with a much more experienced team.   Vics played very well during the first half creating the best opportunities but we were undone by the pace of the Sandbach winger and found our selves 1 down.  This did note deter the young guns who stuck to there task and soon found ourselves level when Joe Marley sneaked on to the end of a good pass.

Second half Sandbach had a slight edge but it was Vics that went in front and Sanbach levelled with 15 minutes to go.  In  the last 10 minutes Vics came back into the game and looked the team most likely to win creating several close attempts in the closing minutes, Sandbach were also denied a winner by the post.

Extra time Vics looked the stronger of the two teams with Sandbach looking for penalties.  Some near misses but no goal resulted in a penalty shoot out.  Sandbach started well scoring the 1st  two while Vics scored and missed, Sandbach missed and Vics put it level  Sandbach then took the lead again and Vics missed, advantage now to Sandbach who finished it off with the next kick

Managers comments:  A good game for the spectator today, an even game well contested and a very unfortunate way to go out of any cup. A good game from our midfield and through the centre well done boys

Vics team - Paul Gregory, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Dom Whithead, Steve Lightfoot, Matt Dean, Pete Aidley, Sam Loyd, Dan Lloyd, MarkDale, Joe Marley, Rob Walker, Matt Carr, Matt Williams    MOM - Team award several good performances through out the pitch

Saturday 4th October    Vics 6 v Winnington Reserves 2 Scorer(s): Adam Williams, Rob Edge 2, Dan Lloyd, Steve Lightfoot, Joe Marley

Not a classic today, our squad was stretched in midfield through illness and availability due to district duty. The wind wasn’t helpful either.  For the opening 5 minutes it was one way traffic in favour of the Vics but as Winnington worked there way back into the game and starting using the wings a unbalanced Vics side struggled leaving free runners and putting the back  four and keeper under a lot of pressure.  An uncharacteristic mistake from Jack H let Winnington in to open up the scoring. Even though the midfield were struggling there was an underlying determination to succeed, this was typified with the equiliser when Adam Williams forced a winning ball just in his own half, hitting the ball high and long and seeing it drop like a stone beyond the Winnington keeper and directly into the net.  The second was a much neater affair with some neat passing resulting in Jonny H setting up Rob Edge to bag his first. Vics were settling a little but still stretched at times but looked good going forward a third was added by Rob Edge to give a 3-1 lead.  Right on the stroke of half time Winnington were awarded a penalty for handball, certainly the biggest error the ref made today but Winnington pulled one back so Vics went in 3-1 at half time

Injury forced a second half change and change of formation.  Vics were soon in the driving seat when some neat football again involving Jonny H led to a nice cross for Dan Lloyd to bag his 1st of the season.  The score remained at 4-2 for quite some time with the back four and Gregs in goal having to stay alert.  With 15 minutes to go Joe Marley was pushed over in the box and the resulting penalty converted by Steve Lightfoot.  Within 10 minutes a second penalty again on Joe Marley, this time he converted himself to give a final score 6-2 in favour of the Vics

Managers comments: A better result than our performance but a pleasing second half in difficult conditions.  Goals coming from a variety of players and a gutsy performance.

Vics team - Paul Gregory, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Adam Williams, Dom Whithead, Steve Lightfoot, Matt Carr, Pete Aidley, Sam Loyd, Jonny Haslam, Rob Edge, Joe Marley, Rob Walker, Joe Marley, Dan Lloyd, Matt Williams    MOM - Jonny Haslam

Saturday 27th September    Vics 2 v Winnington Avenue 3 Scorer(s): Rob Edge, Pete Aidley

In a game when nothing went in our favour we delivered a very good performance. Our squad was somewhat changed today due to loss  of 75% of our usual back four to University but the back four was strong with very limited mistakes.  Vics moved the ball well in the 1st half hitting the inside of the post and creating a number of goal mouth scrambles. Winnington on the other hand were limited to a single chance and free kicks were dubious decisions had been made.

Second half Vics began to dominate and were cutting through the Winnington back four with some very neat football but it was Winnington that opened up the scoring from another free kick  four delivered to a player in a very clear offside position but was allowed to stand.  Vics dealt with the bitter pill well and were soon back in command, Winnington were being squeezed further and further back limiting them to long range shots.  It was one of these that beat our keeper to put the 2-0 up in a game they were second best.  Vics still fought and were opening up Winninton with ease and the first bit of luck of the day cam when Rob Edge managed to steer one in despite not hitting it cleanly.  A second from a long strike from Pete Aidley found thee gaps through a crowded area, all level and some time to go.  It was now one way traffic and we were looking for a winner, when the wheels came off. Looking for a quick delivery our keeper kicked a ball into the back of a Winnington player and it agonisingly crept over the line.  We were now playing a little frantically but despite a constant pressure we were unable to net a third.

Manager’s comments:  The result in no way reflected our performance today.  It was one of our most technically competent performances we have produced to date.  We have learned to move the ball well, vary play and compete, all very important ingredients.  The season will be a pleasure to manage if we continue to play this well, but could also be very disappointing if we don’t turn games we dominate into wins.

Saturday 20th September    Vics 6 v Winnington Avenue Res 0 Scorer(s): Rob Edge, Rob Jones, Jonny Haslam 2, Andy Rogers, Pete Aidley

Today was our first home game of the season and it was on our new home pitch at Jubilee playing fields Bunbury.  Vics were fielding a very strong side today with a full complement of subs and 3 further players standing on the line  The opening 10 minutes was a bit of a mixed bag, we looked great going forward and was causing Winnington a lot of trouble, but we were not to sharp at the back. Vics opened up the scoring with a simple finish from Jonny Haslam. This was followed by a great save from Chris Jones to keep us at 1-0.  Vics now settled and began to play football, the net result being Winnington were not able to live with us, more goals from Andy Rogers, Rob Jones and the best goal of the day from Jonny Haslam who side footed his second following a series of quick  one touch passes and a threaded through ball to beat Winnington back four, this was cut back from the by-line for the tap in

Half time at 4-0 the team talk emphases, was concentration, Winnington with a bare 11 were now struggling but still looked ok going forward.  The Guidance was I wanted a clean sheet more than 10 goals, a very difficult challenge for todays type of game.  10 minutes into the second half we introduced 2 of our Subs in Pete Aidley and Sam Mlloyd who replace the team captain and Andy Rogers who had worked tirelessly and effectively in fact a real problem to the Winnington side. Steve Lightfoot was then introduced to open up his competitive season.  Further goals came from Rob Edge and Pete Aidley saw the final score 6-0 in favour of the Vics

Manager’s Comments: A work man like performance today by all, some periods of quality play especially in the last third of the pitch and whilst its true we could have scored more the most pleasing thing is the concentration to keep a clean sheet.

Vics team - Chris Jones, Adam Nichols, Jack Heaton, Dom Whitehead, Rob Sinnott, Andy Rogers, Matt Carr, Stew Walker (capt), Rob Jones, Rob Edge, Steve Lightfoot, Sam Lloyd, Pete Aidley, Mark Dale, Matt Williams    MOM - Andy Rogers

Saturday 6th September    Vics 4 v Sandbach United 0 Scorer(s): Rob Edge 2, Stew Walker, Rob Jones

A game we didn’t expect to play given the weather leading up to the weekend but the Sandbach pitch was in good condition and the days weather kind.  We started the better of the two sides but Sandbach were a much improved team from there last game out.  There side today although young was a combined team from the North Staffs league and the usual players.  There were a few half chances dropping to a series of players with no one quite getting the contact they were after.  A good through ball to Rob Edge looked to be the changing point but he was pulled down on the edge of the box the resultant kick fetched no reward.  As the time ticked by a game which we had the edge on gave no reward and we got a little anxious.

Half time at 0-0 the team talk emphases, was on patience and continue to do the simple things well.  A more relaxed side with focus on the good things took control of the second half; Rob Edge was put clean through and finished well, a great save from Chris Jones in a rare Sandbach opportunity and then Rob Jones hit the bye line after being released by Stew Walker to cross for Rob Edge’s second.  A third was added by Stew Walker and Rob Jones rounded off the day with a fourth.

Manager’s comments:  The first half we were a little desperate at times with not converting any chances against a gutsy Sandbach team.  The difference for me in this game was our attitude and focus within our own team in the second half. Several outstanding saves were made by the Sandbach keeper  before the first goal was scored but in the second half there was no frustrations just a drive to create more opportunities.

Vics team - Chris Jones, Patrick Anderson, Jack Heaton, Dom Whitehead, Rob SInnott, Sam Lloyd, Matt Carr, Stew Walker (capt), Rob Jones, Rob Edge, Mark Dale, Adam Nichols, Dan Lloyd, Joe Marley, Matt Dean    MOM - Rob Edge

Wednesday 3rd September    Vics 3 v Malpas Reserves 3 Scorer(s): Jon Haslam, Sam Lloyd, Rob Jones

First league game, of the new season, away to local rivals Malpas.  Vics played with the slope in the first half and were sharp straight from kick off.  We were playing a short crisp game looking for deliberate passes and playing with patience.  It was this quick thinking that led to the opening goal, a quick free kick between the defender and the goal was latched onto by Sam Lloyd who crossed for Johnny Haslam to open our account for the season.  Malpas began to force there way into the game playing long balls to the corners, equalising from a set piece.  With the game on an even keel Vics began to stamp there authority on the game, a great individual goal from Sam Lloyd and a well timed run from Rob Jones saw us take the lead 3-1.  We were now in complete control and began to play quality football.

The second half started as the first finished with Vics looking to increase the lead, a series of incidents led to the loss of the Vics skipper.  Even with 10 men we still looked safe until 12 minutes from the end a long hopeful punt beat the Vics keeper. This gave Malpas a kick start and put Vics on the back foot.  Malpas levelled with 5 minutes to go but it was the Vics who finished attacking.

Manager’s comments:  A great opening game and a point on the board, very neat football and one of our most competent performances to date.  If we continue to produce this quality and determination then the team will move from strength to strength.

Vics team - Chris Jones, Patrick Anderson, Jack Heaton, Dom Whitehead, Rob SInnott, Sam Lloyd, Matt Carr, Stew Walker (capt), Rob Jones, Johnny Haslam, Mark Dale, Adam Nichols, Dan Lloyd, Joe Marley    MOM - Johnny Haslam
