![]() ![]() ![]() Despite the passage of time, interest in TDTESS continues. The film was re-screened in Omaha, Nebraska in October 1999 as part of a special celebration. Guests of honour were Patricia Neal and Billy Gray. Gort also put in an appearance, and at one time was heard to enquire about the current price of burnt-out cinders. |
From Bruce WheelerPer your request, I'm sending you a picture of the painting of the former Wheeler residence at 1608 16th St., NW, Washington, D.C. This is the house that was used for the exterior shots of Professor Bernhardt's residence in the film. For the record, the house was built in 1906, and my paternal Grandparents, along with my father and various aunts and uncles, lived there until 1941. This painting was done in 1917 by a noted woman artist, and family friend, Filicie Waldo Howell. |
For devotees of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' or those who want to find more about this film, a visit to Dreamers' TDTESS website is highly recommended. The amount of information there is staggering and it's the largest repository of material on a single film anywhere on the web. I'd like to extend thanks to Dreamer for donating material to my own site. CLICK THE BANNER TO GO THERE![]() UPDATE: I now find that this excellent site has disappeared. What a shame, it will be sorely missed. I'll maintain the link for the time being in the hope that it's absence is temporary, but any information on the whereabouts of "Dreamer", the author of the site, would be much appreciated. Here's a link to an essay on TDTESS and other "B" movies. BMOVIEZ SCIENCE FACTION |
