ALICE IN WONDERLANDA childrens music drama for soprano and orchestra Starring JANE POWELL as 'Alice' with supporting cast Adapted and produced by RALPH ROSE Original music by CARMEN DRAGON COLUMBIA MASTERWORKS Set MM-713 Columbia produced this four-record 78rpm set in 1947 . The sleeve notes give a little background information on the history of Charles Dodgson and how 'Alice' came about. There is also a brief overview of Jane Powell's career up to that time. ![]() "The choice of Jane Powell to play the title role of Alice is an especially happy one. Only a few years ago, this charming young lady was herself something of an Alice in a new Wonderland - Hollywood. Her chief ambition during those first days in the film capital was to get as many pages of her autograph album filled as possible. One day she tried her luck at a radio talent competition. The next day she was engaged to appear on a radio program with Edgar Bergen. Within a week she had been tested, and successfully, for the films. Her lovely fresh voice, her beauty and her considerable dramatic gifts have been displayed to good advantage in a number of movies, notably 'Holiday in Mexico'. She has recorded several 'Masterworks' albums for Columbia." Jane Powell narrates this adaptation in "first person", partly as spoken word, partly in song. It was obviously aimed at a young audience and is presented as a straight forward simple story. Some of the songs are original, but they're mostly Lewis Carrol's standard poems set to the music of Carmen Dragon. |

This song was written by Charles Tobias, Jack Scholl and Murray Mencher. The singer is Baby Rosemary but I've seen the sheet music with identical artwork and different singers pictured, such as Eddie Cantor. I'm not aware that the song belongs to any particular "Alice" production. |
