Anyone for croquet?

September 2010
The U3A Croquet Section is continuing to thrive. In the 2010 season the section had 40 members, the maximum number allowed. Members enjoyed a busy and successful season, playing (and winning) a number of their matches, and organising and participating in a number of well-organised social events.
The Section forms part of Bishop Monkton Croquet Club, and is autonomous in most respects with its own committee. The Section has its own club days (Mondays and Friday, from 2pm) when members gather for an enjoyable afternoon of social play – and some chat!
The Section was represented at the AGM on September 24 at The Cairn. Croquet Section members told visitors about the group and offered application forms to anyone interested in considering joining for the 2011 season. All signing up will be invited to introductory sessions at the end of April and places will be offered according to the number of vacancies at the time.
For anyone who missed the AGM but is interested in possibly joining the section, please contact Richard Field on 01765 677795 OR e-mail him at
The U3A Section leader is Dawn Hey, who won the ladies club championship in 2009.
The Committee also comprises Brian Hey, Ros Gillingham, Eileen Davies, John Kendal, Janet Blake and Marcel Boughton.
