
U3A Naturalists 2010 Programme
12th January Members
Day – members are invited to bring along photographs, slides digital
presentations, specimens etc for discussion and identification. Also quizzes
for our amusement. Also some refreshments would be appreciated to have with our
cup of tea.
9th February The
Ure Wetlands – a talk by Simon Warwick. This will be held at Community
House on Westmoreland Street. Start 2.15pm
16th March Bird Watching – meet at Lingham Water CP near Nosterfield on the
B6267 Masham to Thirsk road at 10.30. We will walk to a local pub for lunch
then call in at other reserves on the way home.
Another
visit will be to look for the Purple saxifrage on Pen-y Ghent. Arrangements
will be made with those who wish to go on this trip.
13th April Hetchel Wood – take the A58 to Scarcroft on the Leeds Road and
opposite the pub turn left along Mill Lane signposted Thorner. Keep turning
left to Thorner till parking places appear near the wood. Walk to start at
1.30pm.
11th May Nidd Gorge – ‘Living with Nature’. Folk Tales, Food and Cures. Meet
at Bilton Junction CP at 1.30
15th June No Outing – replaced by the
Arnside outing.
28th June - Arnside Trip – an outing for three days with overnight
accommodation is being organised.
1st July We will be looking at number
of well known nature reserves. This will include Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve,
Arnside Knot, Whitbarrow, Gaitbarrows and Hutton Roof which are botanical and
mixed reserves.
13th July Dallowgill – birds and flora of moorland and sessile oak woods.

Meet
at 10.30 am in the CP above Tom Corner at SE 17800 72600 near the road junction
with the Mosaic Walk Centurion where the new house has been given the former
name ‘Shooters Inn’. This is on the road towards Ramsgill from Kirkby Malzeard
via Swetton.
Bring
a packed lunch but we may repair to a local pub.
10th August Hackfall Wood – woodland ecology and
history of the Aislaby wild garden. Leader Brian Wood.
Meet
in the WT CP north of Grewelthorpe on the Masham Road. At 10.30 am
14th September Fungus
Foray - an all day outing with Denise Carter. Venue Bolton Abbey Woods.
Meet in the Bardon Bridge CP at 10.30 am. Turn off the
Bolton Abbey / Burnsall road at Bardon Tower.
Lunch
will be taken at the Cavendish Pavilion.
12th October ‘What is Nature’ - Talk by Brian
Wood.
9th November Walk in
the Park – a talk by Tony Wilson on
the wildlife of Hyde Park London.
14th December Christmas

Meetings will take place at the Fire Station on Skipton
Road except in February when the venue will be the Community Centre in
Westmoreland Street, Harrogate.
