TAI CHI - January 2012
Organiser, Val Cooke

SPRING TERM 2012 - STARTING
Tai Chi and will be starting at Jennyfield Community Centre
on Thursday 12th January, from 3.30 - 4.30pm.

The cost will be £45 for the term, payable in advance. This may seem expensive for a U3A Group, however there is no profit made from the charges and overall, the costs are still less than Tai Chi classes elsewhere.
Contrary to almost all Groups in the U3A, for Health & Safety reasons, the teacher of Tai Chi is a professional instructor, qualified in Health and Fitness, and is paid accordingly. In addition there is the cost of hiring the halls. (The cost is finely balanced and dependent on members paying for the whole term. Because one may be away for a short break or holiday doesn't mean the cost is reduced. The hall and instructor are paid each week regardless of whether members are able to be there or not. ).

New members trying Tai Chi, are able to have one session at a cost of £5 payable on the day. If wishing to continue, then the cost is thereafter £4.50 per session, payable in advance until the end of term. .
Comfortable loose clothing and thin soled shoes or socks should be worn.
It is necessary to be a paid up member of Harrogate U3A for 20011-12 for insurance purposes.
Please remember to allow time for registration - particularly at the first session.

There is regular service from town on bus route No.3 to Jennyfield and there also is carparking available.

Please Email or phone Val Cooke (01423 506837) for more information and to reserve a place.

The Tai Chi Philosophy
In the philosophy of Tai Chi it is said Chi (life energy) follows the mind, each posture and movement creates a different energy flow which, has a beneficial overall effect on our overall well being. Tai Chi stimulates circulation, aligns the skeleton and joints correctly, stimulates the organs of the body and helps digestion. It increases muscle tone, strength, improves balance and co ordination and also improves breathing. Tai Chi does not just provide physical benefits, by raising energy levels it also affects the mind and the spirit. Tai Chi is suitable for all ages and abilities.
