| Setting up the KIPS Valves Setting up the valves is easy. The piccy in the KR1 manual on page 4-7 shows how they should be. Note the position of the flats on the valves. On the two outside valves this is out and down. On the two inside valves out and up. Set the valves up as per the piccy. This aligns them up approximately. Next drop the exhausts off. Turn the ignition on and the valves should turn to the open position - switch the ignition off. Get a torch and look up the exhaust ports. You will see the KIPS valves - now adjust them so that they are aligned with the passages in the barrels. Make sure you don't put to much tension on the cables else the power valve motor will lock up, i.e as you tighten one cable loosen the other. turn the ignition on and let the valves close then open again. Switch off the ignition and check the valves are still lined up. If not repeat the exercise until they are ok. You will probably find that you can't get all of them spot on so settle for the best you can get (to get them spot on would mean adjusting the tie rods between the valves). Lock off the adjusters and make sure the valves turn smoothly - remember if you over tighten the cables you will lock the power valve motor and or damage the valves.
