KR Cup Rules and Prizes V1.07 For 2003

 The KR Cup - Donated by Davy McGeachie The bike must be a KR1, KR-1S or KR-1R and eligible for the Derby Phoenix F400 round, i.e. if the scruitineer says it is ok then you are in.
Capacity should be 250 cc (I can't see much point in entering a 300 cc machine it will just nuke itself).
Probably the only thing that I should stamp on are bigger carbs - they are not legal as part of F400 - but if you succeed in fitting and making them work then I would like to know (The KR1-R was fitted with 35mm carbs as standard, if you have one I want to know - this bike and/or its carbs would be legal).
You are allowed to run wets (current F400 rules - Bridgestone are doing 18" wets) and you can change the wheel diameter and rim sizes (RGV rears are the first choice though Honda 600 rears have ben fitted).
There is only so much that you can do to a KR and keep it reliable so I can't see much point in specifying too many things - the biggest gains are tyres and handling.

At each race day there should be two rounds. Grid position for Race 1 is based on when Derby Phoenix get your entry. The position for Race 2 is based on your finish in Race 1.

Now it gets a bit complicated as I have devised a weird system for scoring points. Hopefully this will encourage the slower riders. For Race 1 it is simple. Points are 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and everybody else who finishes gets 1.
Race 2 is the tricky one. You get points as per Race 1, i.e. 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and everybody else who finishes gets 1. Now if you improve your Race 1 position in Race 2 you get 1 extra point for each place you improve by up to a maximum of 5 points. Points will be awarded based on your position in race 1 and the result of race 2, as per Table 1 below. If you fail to finish race 1 or you don't start race 1 you will not be eligable for improve points.
You can't score more than 20 and you don’t lose points for dropping back in race2 compared with your position in race1.

The table gives the points for the first 12 positions. Race 1 result is in row 1 and Race 2 result is in column 1.

I hope this will encourage the slower riders as improvement will be rewarded. The quicker guys (or girls) will still get the most points. Equally it can also compensate for having a poor grid position in Race 1.

Example 1 If you come first in race 1 and 3rd in race 2 you get 15 + 10=25 points.


Example 2 If you come 9th in race 1 and 4th in race 2 you get 1 + 8 + (9-4)=14 points. Though you came 4th you get more points then the chap who came third because you pick up 5 points for improvement.

Main change for 2003 is 17" or 18" ally wheels are the same points. Any wheel not made of alumminium will result in one point deducted per wheel, i.e. if you run Dymags or similar front and back you lose two points per race. Basically this means you can fit any standard road wheel (they are made of ally) but penalises you if you spend mega bucks on a fancy set of wheels - hopefully this will keep the cost of racing down - whilst not excluding those who are trying to buy race wins.

Prizes - Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the second race. The first novice will also get a trophy.
At the end of the season there will Trophies and prizes for the first three places - £150 for first, £100 for second and £50 for 3rd overall, with the highest placed novice getting £50. First place gets the KR Cup (though you have to give it back at the end of the year). The cup is meant to be a bit of fun and a means for getting a few more KR's back on the track. For 3rd season of the Cup we are back with Derby Phoenix as they race at a number of circuits and have looked after us well for past two seasons - this does however mean a bit of travelling.

Plenty of weekend meetings - this may be good or bad depends on your point of view. Personally I like 'em.
In 2001 we had 16 different riders competing in the Cup with a best turn out of 11 KR's at Mallory with an average of 6 bikes per round.
In 2002 interest was greater, we had 14 different riders and averaged 9 per race until injuries cut numbers... so it is crucial you get your entries in early. When you receive your entry from Derby Phoenix, and you are planning on competeing at all rounds, send off your entry with the deposit (£40 per day which is not cashed until the closing date for the race, i.e. it doesn't cost initially). This will ensure you get a half decent grid position and an entry. The F400 was heavily oversubscribed in 2002.
