"TWIN CATHEDRALS TOUR" TO SPAIN

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, was performed in front of Truro Cathedral on 6 and 7 June 2003. A week later, the company flew to Spain to perform to expectant Spanish audiences in Andalucía, in front of the Cathedral in the ancient city of Cádiz. The play was directed by Derek Ross, and contained full scale dance performances, choreographed by Anne Lazenby.

The play tells the story of a summer's night of romance and confusion, as spirits from the fairy-world cast spells on two pairs of young lovers who, in this confusion, chase and avoid each other as the situations become ever more complicated and farcical. The company performed with a contemporary atmosphere and interpretetion, with the accent being on the physical and the dynamic. Being produced in-the-round in the large open space which the Cathedral squares of Truro and Cádiz afforded, created wonderful opportunities for a fast-moving, Commedia Dell'Arte style of presentation, and, as it was to be toured in Spain,
the actors' job was to tell the story in as clear a way as possible, to audiences having little knowledge of the English language.
