103/B Position on the River Piave - 26 October 1918

This is where British troops forced a crossing over the Piave in the final advance. This diagram shows the general layout of signal wires connecting the guns, observation posts, headquarters and officers mess via the telephone pit.

There were no diary entries by this stage of the war. There was probably a quiet period leading up to this point as part of the deception plan prior to the assault. No British guns were fired from arrival until 6 hours before the attack. This then was the start of a major offensive, to cross the river Piave, by 10th Italian Army comprising XIth and XVIII Italian Corps and XIVth British Corps (23 Div and 7 Div). The Battery position at war's end in the Italian theatre on 4th November was Pordenone, about 40km NE from here.
