The Craic! was formed in May 1995 by Geoff, who having left his former band Hoggshead in Newcastle upon Tyne and travelled to warmer climbs, was determined to pursue one of his great loves.... Folk/rock music. The search started in Folk Clubs "&" sessions around the Leicester area in March 1994 and it was not until a year later that Geoff stumbled across Pierre "&" Martin playing in a village pub at Sutton Cheney in Leicestershire. From that point on things started to snowball. Bohdran player Andy Smith joined along with fiddler John Elton from Stamford. The band played its first gig in August ‘95 and has gone from strength to strength since then. Both Andy Smith and John Elton left and were replaced by Andy Connor and Michael Saunders.
The Craic now perform about 4 times a month around the Midlands and have gained huge popularity as a fun celtic band playing fast "&" furious Jigs and reels along with traditional songs from the emerald isle They have played all the major Irish venues in the Midlands and have performed on Radio and Television. The band released their first album in 1998 after overwhelming requests from audiences..................not to.
