If you want to create a natural looking pond, you will need to build it so it gets gradually deeper from all sides with no shelves. You probably want to put in a bog garden and beech areas too. Stock it with fish native to your area (but don’t take them from local rivers and streams!). Ornamental Koi Carp or Goldfish are a definite NO! in a natural looking pond.
