Dr. Rick (Dag) Dagless M.D.

(Played by Garth Marenghi)

A maverick doctor haunted by the demons of his past, who must now fight an everlasting battle with the forces of darkness whilst dealing with the burden of day to day admin. Dagless is an ex-warlock, having renounced the occult in favour of the stability of the medical profession.

Quotes:

"In fact I haven't the foggiest, ha ha ha"

About Garth

Garth was born to Solomon and Gaynor Marenghi in Leytonstone, and spent his childhood in Romford, recovering from jaundice. He published his first book, Slicer, while still working in a small advertising firm in Soho. The financial success of his third novel, Black Fang, finally allowed him to leave his job and take up writing full-time.
In total, he has written countless blood-curdling novels, as well as numerous short stories and horror poems. Garth Marenghi, titan of terror, lives in Barnes with his wife Pam and his four daughters, Meredith, Jocasta, Katrina, and one that has yet to be named.

Garth's Quotes:

"I have never exploded"
"Sometimes I pray to myself at night, and if I'm lucky, I might just answer back"

Thorton Reed played by Dean Learner

Thornton Reed

(Played by Dean Learner)

Dagless’s boss and professional ball-buster. A former POW in Korea forced by his injuries into pushing paper behind a desk, he longs to be back on the ward with the young bucks.

Quotes:

"My arse is grass and he's got a lawn mower, you dig?"

"I want to see you two in my office 5 minutes ago, so you'd better be quick about!"

About Dean

Dean Learner is Garth’s manager, publisher and publicity agent. Dean’s background is in ‘high-class erotica’, but made the move to horror some time ago to pioneer the ‘scary porn’ genre (where he oversaw such releases as Bitches in Blood, and Spider Pussy). Learner was the first person to have Garth’s books published. ‘We never had a contract. I just bared my chest and said, “sign here, that’s the only signature I’m ever going to ask you to make in my presence. In retrospect, I should’ve got something that put me on a surer legal footing.”
Garth and Dean had a fall out in the 1980s over the financial collapse of Darkplace. Marenghi took his business to a new manager, but the union was cut short when the latter was found shot dead in his flat shortly after their first power-lunch. After this tragic episode, Learner and Marenghi reconciled their differences and are now inseparable.
As well as his work in the publishing business, Learner recently re-opened his club Dean’s in West London (nearest tube North Acton, near the Megabowl). He has never married, but has been engaged twenty-nine times.

Quotes:

"I don't know whether that scene was meant to represent anybody, if it was a friend of Garths who had exploded, or a pet..."

Dr Lucien Sanchez played by Todd Rivers

Dr. Lucien Sanchez

(Played by Todd Rivers)

Hot-shot surgeon Sanchez served alongside Dagless in ‘Nam.’ A student of martial arts and Eastern lore, he has pledged a sacred oath to uphold justice, which he does his best to keep.

Quotes

"Why can't I be more attractive like Dagless?"

About Todd

Star of over sixty horror films, Rivers was the bright B-movie hope of his generation, until drink and womanising took its toll. Recent appearances in The Bill and Holby City, however speak of an actor returning to his best form. An accomplished rock singer/songwriter, he is perhaps most famous for his Lucky Dip LP, featuring the tracks Hot Woman (When You’re Going Down) and One Track Lover, which is featured in Episode 6 of Darkplace.

Quotes

"'You and he were buddies, weren’t you?', need I say more, need I say more."

Dr Liz Asher played by Madeline Wool

Dr. Liz Asher

(Played by Madeleine Wool)

Lady doctor with psychic powers. Liz joins Dagless’s team after seeing hell opening beneath Darkplace Hospital. Able to perform stunning feats of telekinesis, Liz is nevertheless afflicted with emotional instability, like most women.

Quotes

"I think I'll wash my hair, plus I've also got a headache."

About Madeleine

An enigma of enigmas, Madeleine Wool’s history is wrapped in secrets (partly because no-one ever asked). One of the best animal impersonators of this or any other age, she is currently missing, presumed dead.

Other Characters

The receptionist is the 2nd character to appear on Darkplace, after Liz Asher, not alot of people know that

The Extra

Not sure on his name but he has been a Doctor, Receptionist,
Keyboard soloist and a Barman.  Not the best acting
in the show but plays an important part in most of the story lines.

Quotes

"You can start right away after our last doctor died in horrific circumstances"

Jim has survived many things including being tartened, attacked by a corpse and being turned into a monkey   Jim

Another Doctor on the B-wing of Darkplace.
Often works along side Dagless.  Plays an
important part in most story lines as he is
normally the first to be attacked.

Quotes

"Get me Dr. Rick Dagless, argghhh, nooo! Nooo! ahh!"

Embrace the infiniteThe Padre

Friend to Rick, man of God.  Runs away at any sign of danger and blames it on the Devil.  Can normally been found in the vestry or in the jeep.  Has only ever loved the holy three.  Appears in episode 1 at the funeral, episode 4 to tell Rick about the monkeys then in episode 6 to praise Rick in an overall way.

Quotes

"Your the most sensitive man I know Rick, and I know God"

"I'm sure we all feel that he exploded too young. But The Lord moves in mysterious ways. Sometimes he'll come in at an angle, sometimes he can hover, and then swoop. Or he can come in from beneath like a worm, or mole. Lord, it's his choice how he chooses to manifest himself..."

Get that into your pretty little face   The Chef

First appears in the second episode.  Seems to be very stress and can take a very long time to prepare food.  Played by a very good actor I must point out who leaves a 'dramatic' pause between Madeline Wool's talking and him interrupting.  Even though he is horribly tortured and injured on his first appearance this doesn't stop him making an appearance in the last episode to take the broccoli woman away to be boiled.  Freakishly tall, there was an unaired episode where he just kept getting taller, presumably ending in Rick having to shoot him.

Quotes

"Son-of-a-bitch"

Oh my god, I forgot to Flush!!!The Security Guard

Appears in both Skipper the eye child in the opening scene to 'help' Dr. Rick Dagless MD to gain access to a ward, then again in scotch mist as he is asleep on a couch then in episode 6 when for some reason he's transporting a patient, despite the fact he's a security guard, but then again he doesn't seem to do anything that a security guard does such as protecting the hospital.  It seems he has been made redundant by Rick.

Quotes

"Get me Doctor Rick Dagless!!  Yes I'll hold!"

"Look at the size of that thing's rod and what it's doing to that poor man"
