Keith Caden is a multi-instrumentalist, keyboardist and vocalist hailing from Brighton. 'For I Know That You Lie' is Keith's debut release and it's available now on the consistently superb Australian based record label Straightup Recordings.
The original track effortlessly captures a superb blend of soulful jazz that builds and builds until 4 minutes in where it really lets loose; a bit like some early Quantic tracks (think Life In The Rain but far more trippy), and it's reminiscent of Nostalgia 77 whilst being that bit more beat driven and deeper, meaning it's not as heavy on the 'freestyle' front. Fantastic vocals, instrumentation and arrangements throughout. Fans of Finnish Big Band Jazz's 'Ufology' need to buy this on sight. Proper nu jazz music for 2008 and beyond!
The Alternative version is a more upbeat affair - more horns, and pulsing drums that are that bit more broken, whilst keeping it that live edge. More clubby without being 'club' music - think Lanu vs Two Banks Of Four and your in the right vicinity. A very playable alternative that sounds that bit 'newer'.
The Reprise is a gorgeous beatless version that lets the vocal intertwine with the piano, horns and strings to create soulful bliss that wouldn't sound out of place as an extra tracks on Massive Attack's 'Blue Lines' LP.
The label tell us: "Keith's vocals have been praised by people like Eska of The Cinematic Orchestra and New Sector Movements fame and his music is ever gaining him respect and admiration from fellow musicians such as N-Side (N-Side and the Tribe), Bluewise (Blackland of the Nile), Lady Clair (Ed Meme and The Forms) and Baby Charles to name but a few. His deep soulful music is at times abstract and at times danceable but always very soulful". Sounds spot on to me!
