Artist - Mike De Vellis NYC sax player, Mike DeVellis and his tune
Funkalicious gets a work out from some amazing producers. Straightup scoped
the globe from England to Japan to Turkey to bring you some fresh remixes of
this infectious sax-funk piece. The Original is an authentic sounding jazz funk gem that Maceo would be
proud of. The kind of thing that has beat heads nodding along without fail and will
easily get feet moving on the floor earlier on. This has itch and
Dig Deep written all over it and will fit into any funk and hip hop
lovers set with ease. Diesler has his sights set firmly on the dancefloor and drops one of
his bass heavy killers. Guaranteed to rip up any decent dancefloor from
breaks to broken beat with his trademark latin flavoured percussive and horn
loops in tow. Produced to perfection, this is another explosive club worker from
the Burnley based main man! Onur Engin stays true to the original whilst taking us down a more
beat-head driven path. Simply re-arranging the original parts and making
the beats heavier creating a nice alternative that is more break based than
'jazzy'. The Slowly version is fantastic and sounds totally live. Ace for
warm sunny days, it's the kind of soul based funk gem that makes people smile
in the summertime. The kind of thing that the likes of A Tribe Called
Quest and J Dilla used to dig for, so someone is bound to sample this at
some point in the future. Just plain groovy, playing this one to death and
I still can't get enough, this is my current favourite! Impossible to pick just one standout as the Original, Slowly
version and Diesler remix all have their time and place. Safe to say
this is another superb offering from Straightup! Rating - 10/10

Michael DeVellis has worked with some of the greats of the scene including
laying down horn lines with NYC house legend Joeski as well as Crafty
Cutz and Stanley Jordan. Also having opened for the likes of Maceo
Parker. Working together here with Tru Thoughts/Freestyle artist
Diesler, Straightup Recordings own Onur Engin and Masasto Komatsu,
aka Slowly (producer of Japanese Jazz greats Quasimode), the tune
gets a run around the block in all directions from a four on the floor dance
number to sweet piano tinkling on a jazz tip...
