Hot on the heels of the great Greg
Wilson remix of 'Get Up' comes the the third single from the Elektrons (aka
UnaBombers) LP 'Red Light Don't Stop'. 'Classic Cliché'
features the killer vocals of Mpho Skeef and the track is all about the
"lighter more upbeat sound of the Elektrons". "It's a very modern sound, but with a nod to the
past" explains Justin Unabomber, "almost like a modern day Minnie
Ripperton". Manchester's finest have surpassed themselves again
with this fantastic remix package.
Classic Cliché (LP Version)
Rude! This has everything you could ever want in a big dance floor classic.
Buckets full of soul with a disco flavour and instantly infectious vocals. The
track is a really well produced string laden, chunky drum based, house groove,
that has the Unabombers written all over it. With a cut up feel lurking in the
background, this is one of those things that will appeal to everyone from
'proper' house heads through to the nu-disco lovers and the Phil Asher
crew. There is a tight radio edit too - this could easily crossover given the
right support.
Wahoo Remix
"Stripped, percussive and deep for the House crews" sums this up very
nicely. Berlin's DJ Dixon takes us into Sonar Kollektiv territory
and conjures up a deep techy house groove that fans of Ame and co will go
nuts for. This dark, electronic, pulsing 4/4 groove builds and builds, then
drops to a haunting breakdown before slamming back in with solid drums. Definitely
one for the Carl Craig heads. Up there with the original but with a more
underground feel.
Ashley Beedles Heavy Disco Remix
"Updated Philly Style with strings n' all" again is a fair description.
Beedle drops a vocal 4/4 bomb, with clear appeal to the ladies, that is as good
as any Basement Jaxx record ever was - as such it deserves to get the same level
of success. Best for the strictly 'house' jams where the crowd want to hear
something large, new but familiar.
Ashley Beedles Heavy Disco Dub
Like a disco re-edit come remix with authentic sounds, a heavy kick, full
strings and a rump shaking bassline. This phat stripped down take sounds great
in the mix between house and disco and is full to the brim with that Black
Science Orchestra trade mark style.
Small Arms Fiya Remix
"Bassbin Buggin Bashment vibes" come correct from the ever hot
Sheffield crew. We get chopped up punchy drums with a wicked rhythm and
arrangement that runs under a heavy bassline (that actually squelches).
Never forgetting the soul, they make great use of the vocal and have delivered
an almost urban take that will be lapped up by lovers of everyone from Bugz,
Seiji, Daz-I-kue to those feeling the studio trickery of the Linkwood
Family's 'Piece Of Mind'. One for the tougher floors out there.
Small Arms Fiya Dub
Pretty much does what it says on the tin and lets the beats and bass shine
through the broken and very funky vibe. One for the heavier moments when you
want to make the speakers shake! This takes no prisoners and will be
coming out next time I want a thundering instrumental.
