After a two year hiatus, J-Live
follows his last critically acclaimed 'The Hear After LP' with a 6 song
EP on BBE called 'Reveal The Secret'.
My favourite MC explains “I want this to feel like it came outa nowhere. I
want the people that have it to feel special, you know. Let them spread the word
that I’m back. Pass it on before the album drops. You know… let the cat out
the bag, reveal the secret.”
It's no secret that J Live has worked with his fair share of elite producers in
the past. And although this autumns mini project is just a precursor, it is no
different. Reveal the Secret features production by DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ
Spinna, Da Beatminerz, Marco Polo and Oddisee.
“My people have been dying for me and Spinna to get back in the lab. He’s
been down since day one. We have a couple other joints on the album too”. The
album, titled 'Then What Happened' is due out in 2008. But in the
meantime, the EP will serve as a best foot forward, on J’s path to share his
music with the world, break out of obscurity, and 'Reveal the Secret'.
The Incredible
Superb production and rhymes like no other. Up there with his best, incredible has ace lyrics over a lovely laid back
jazz laced track. Great cuts from Jeff, as he makes great use of an old KRS-One
sample, this is the kind of jaw dropping hip hop gem we love to drop at itch
and on the Dig Deep Radio Show -
it's like the Passin Me By of 2007. It simply does not get any better
than this killer MC.
Once Upon A Mic
Aside
from J's ace lyrics, 'Once Upon a Time' is all about the keys and squelchy
bassline. This is as irresistible as they come and as always J's lyrical content
is wise and his flow is as smooth as honey. This is dripping with the funk and
is up there with his very best.
