After narrowly missing the closing shot in Return of the Jedi, you said goodbye to your pals and returned to your homeworld of Sullust. Civilian life wasn't easy, after trying it for six months you decided any job where you couldn't wear armour type 12 to work wasn't for you. So you re-enlisted into the newly formed New Republic Defense Fleet.

The military life was definitely your calling and you were quickly promoted up through the ranks. The first five years were fairly uneventful, a few pirate attacks, a renegade Imperial Stormtrooper raid but nothing major to warrant a ripple-fire from your PML.

In recent years there has been a massive escalation in pirate attacks on shipping lanes in your sector. Even though New Republic ships have been deployed in the affected areas, they seem helpless in curbing the sudden and unexplained pirate activity. The pirate ships strike without warning, easily overpowering the small Nebulon-B Class frigates which are used for escort duty, looting and then escaping into hyperspace before the larger MC-80 Star Cruisers could get into firing range.

During one pirate raid, in which New Republic Forces were able to engage the enemy, one you closet companions, "Eder" was killed. Having disabled one pirate ship's sublight drive engines (a lucky shot) you were ordered to board the vessel. Leading a strike team of 12 Sullustian Marines you managed to breach a lower airlock of the pirate vessel and board the ship. You then began a search and destroy operation throughout the rest of the ship. While you were searching the massive cargo bay area, your small group was ambushed by 30 or more pirates. Eder, who was on point, was killed almost instantly. After a short but destructive battle, the pirates were eliminated to a man and your group suffered a further 3 dead and 5 wounded.

Your team was then ordered back to your mother vessel as the pirate ship was detected to be on a self-destruct sequence. No pirates were captured or detected to have escaped from the vessel.

The engagement with the pirates had been a small victory, 3 rebels ships had been crippled to the one pirate ship destroyed. You were decorated for your team's bravery (a StarBurst) and promoted to the rank of Major.

High Command had seen the need for a new class of starship to combat the pirates, something that was fast and carried serious firepower. This resulted in the "Freedom" class Light Cruiser. Two prototype vessels were constructed the "Freedom" and the "Pride of Sullust", you were selected to captain the "Sullust". The ships were handed over to the New Republic Star Fleet for space trials six months ago.
