- In the
first five years of its existence, The Mango Tree has grown to support
over 11,000 orphans who have lost one or both parents, predominantly
to AIDS
- We focus
on long-term development, not just relief. We want to give the children
the education and vocational training needed to build a sustainable
and independent future
- Our approach
is also incredibly cost efficient, using local community volunteers
to minimise our overheads and maximise our effectiveness in the villages
in which we operate
- Our main
area of work is in southern Tanzania, in a district called Kyela near
the Malawi border. However, in August 2006, we also begun activities
near Lake Victoria in Kenya (see the reports below for more news).
