Showcasing
Animal Art by Lara Ryan
Welcome to
the pet portraits and animal art gallery! Here you will find a wonderful variety
of animal art, in various different medias.
I take commissions! I draw any animal, just provide me with good quality photographs
of your or a friend's pet and let me know which media you would like it drawn
in. Currently I take commissions in graphite, coloured pencil and pastels.
In the future I may do acrylics also.
International commissions are welcome but I insist on sending the pet portrait
via insured airmail which will require signing for at the other end.
Currently I do my work on thick heavy artists cartridge paper, A4 sized. I
accept PayPal and the prices are below!

Borzoi
A Borzoi in Derwent
coloured pencils. My parents had a Borzoi when I was very small. He was a
gentle and friendly dog. This was one I drew from a photo in a book and I
chose him because he had such interesting markings and colours.
Nina
the Abyssinian Guinea Pig
This is a graphite
drawing of one of my guinea pigs, Nina. I took lots of photos of her to choose
a pose that was appealing.
I love drawing guinea pigs, they are a wonderful shape and the abyssinian ones
have very interesting fur, it goes in lots of different directions and is fun
to recreate this in my work.
Horse
A horse I drew
for my diploma course in pet portraits. This is the first horse head portrait
I have ever drawn and it was interesting to draw something that wasn't a cat
or a dog. I wish to become prolific in all types of animal portraits. This
was drawn in Derwent coloured pencils like the Borzoi.
Papillon
A Papillon in
acrylics. I am still learning with these, painting is a lot different to colouring
with pencils since I have to mix my own colours instead of just grabbing the
one I need! It was also the first time I had ever painted a pet portrait with
acrylics.
Borris
An example of
a montage portrait of several images of the same animal. This is my cat, Borris.
I used a variety of graphite pencils for the black and white images and the
main one is Derwent coloured pencils. This is also an example of my ability
to draw an animal in a variety of different poses.

Gorilla
in the Forest
This was a piece
I did for my final exam in the course I did. A gorilla in the forest looking
thoughtful. I painted this in acrylics and it took several days. But it was
an interesting learning experience because I learnt I could do a lot of different
textures and effects with the brush.
