Herkimer
Diamonds
Herkimer
diamonds are rare double terminated quartz crystals found only in a small
area of Herkimer County, New York. A double terminated crystal has points
on both ends instead of just one end. These special crystals were first discovered
in the early 1800's by settlers in New York and were named Herkimer diamonds
due to their diamond-like shape. A typical Herkimer diamond has 18 facets:
six upper, middle, and lower facets. They are also known for being very bright
and incredibly clear, although they can also come in other rare formation
and colors. Their incredible clarity is ddue to a slightly different ratio
of carbon to silicon as compared to normal rock crystal quartz. There are
very few other places in the world that they can be found.
14k Goldfill
For those of you who may not know what 14k goldfill (or 14kgf) is, 14/20 (or 1/20th 14 karat) gold-filled, or gold overlay, is made by heat and pressure-bonding a thick layer of gold to a brass core. The 1/20 notation refers to the ratio of the 14 Karat gold layer to the brass layer by weight, which is 5 %. Karat gold covers the brass surface, making it tarnish-resistant. The value of the gold-filled is greater than gold-plated because gold-filled has an actual layer, not just a microscopic film of karat gold, so it will not rub off. All of our gold filled jewellery is of the highest quality. Gold-filled jewellery is economical and lasts a lifetime.
South Sea Shell Pearls
South Sea shell pearls are hand crafted from the shells of South Ocean pearl oysters, living in the deep seas and polished to a high luster. First, the shell is ground into a perfectly round shape, then the colours are dyed in as many as seven layers so that it will maintain its luster and will not fade with time. Natural South Sea or Tahitian pearls of this size and grade could cost up to £10,000.00 each, only the very wealthy are able to afford them, but these pearls look virtually identical - beautiful and absolutely stunning at a mere fraction of the price! The gorgeous natural looking colours and the heavy weight of the pearls contribute to the overall impression of natural South Sea Pearls. They look gorgeous with evening wear and are guaranteed to turn heads!
Coral
The coral that I use is dyed bamboo coral, sponge coral and other non-endangered species.
