Dick's  Hohner/Warmoth 6 string bass. "This started life as a Hohner baritone guitar, but the regular scale neck it came fitted with didn't really work. I went onto the Warmoth website and discovered they had just started manufacturing baritone necks with a 28 3/8" scale that could be fitted directly onto a Strat or Tele to convert it. So I had one sent over. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I removed the scratch plate and fitted a couple of  rewound Strat style pick-ups and made a blanking plate to cover the centre pick-up hole. (The selector switch is a three-position one and I figured that the neck/bridge combination offered a better alternative to a centre pick-up.) When the neck turned up, I took the whole lot over to Mark Pressling at Arbiters and he took it home to do in his spare time. Sod's law had it that the geometry of the Hohner was totally different from a Fender, so Mark had all sorts of problems getting the neck to fit right. But he persevered and in the end presented me with an absolutely beautifully finished job. He's a genius and whatever he's earning now, he deserves a pay rise! So I now have not a baritone but a six-string bass that goes 'twang' right down to low E with a great selection of tones."
